Description

0. 1). HAMMOND.
TOWEL HOLDER. APPLICATION FILED NOV. 23, 1909.

WITNESSES ATTORNEYS THE NORRIS PETERS 0a., WASHINGTON, n. c
ORIVIUS D. HAMMOND, OF WYOMING, NEW YORK.
TOWELHOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ORMUs D. HAMMOND, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Wyoming, in the county of Wyoming and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in 'lowel-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention is an improvement in towel holders or holders designed for towels or other cloths and the invention consists in certain novel constructions and combinations of parts as will be hereinafter described and claimed.
In the drawing Figure 1 is a perspective view of the invention as in use. Fig. 2 is a side view thereof with the holder in contracted position and Fig. 3 is a side elevation with the holder expanded as when a towel or other cloth is held within the gripping portion. I
As shown the holder A is bent from spring wire and is formed with the lower contracted portion A between which the towel or other cloth is gripped as shown in Fig. l, and the arms A of the holder extending upwardly from the contracted portion A are provided at their free ends with inwardly projecting branches A from which the loops A are bent, the said loops being disposed reversely as shown in the drawings and being of sufiicient width to permit the play of the loops in the supporting eye B when the parts are applied for use, as will be understood from Figs. 2 and 3 of the drawing. It will be noticed that the eye B is disposed horizontally so that the edge of the holder may hang against the wall thus supporting the holder edgewise with respect to the wall and thereby facilitating the insertion and removal of the cloth in the use of the invention. By the reverse arrangement of the loops A the arms A can be spread as desired, the eye limiting the spreading movement in such manner as to prevent any breakage of the holder at the lower end a of the contracted cloth gripping portion A.
It will be noticed that the reversely disposed loops A rest flatwise side by side and in close proximity and slide upon each other in opening and closing movements of the Specification of Letters Patent.

arms A and also that the weight of the cloth and holder in the use of the invention operates to draw the arms toward each other by the action of the loops upon their supporting device. The loops rest fiatwise side by side and approximately in the plane of the body of the holder and they slide upon each other in the plane of the body of the holder in the opening and closing movement of the holder as will be understood from the drawings. This construction is an importantfeature of my invention as well as the particular construction by which the loops are formed and supported on the inwardly extending arms A which project in reverse directions and support their respective loops as shown.
The holders may be made of any suitable metallic wire and can be nickel-plated or otherwise finished or coated'as may be desired by the manufacturer or purchasers.
I claim:
1. A holder for towels and other cloths consisting of wire bent to form a contracted portion mid-way between its ends and having arms. extending upwardly from said contracted portion and provided at their upper ends with inwardly extending portions and with loops bent therefrom and resting side by side and in close proximity, the said loops being reversely disposed and resting side by side, and a supporting device consisting of an eye receiving said loops and disposed horizontally, all substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
2. A holder for towels and similar cloths having a contracted gripping portion, arms extending upwardly therefrom and provided at their upper ends with inwardly extending portions projecting in reverse directions and having at their ends loops arranged approximately in the plane of the body of the holder and resting side by side and movable upon each other in the plane of the holder in the opening and closing movements of the device, all substantially as and for the purposes set forth.
ORMUS D. HAMMOND.
