SY LVESTER KOZLO'WSKI, OF DETROIT, MICHIGAN.
KEEPER-PLATE FOB DOOR-LOCKS.-
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July 19, 1916."
Application filed September 15, 1909. Serial No. 517,781.
To all whom it may concern:
' Be it known that I, SYLVESTER KozLowsKI, a citizen of th'e-United States of America, residing at Detroit, in the county of Wayne and State of Michigan, have invented oer-- useful Improvements in.
taln new and Keeper-Plates for Door-Locks, of which the following is a s ecification, reference being had therein to the accompanying drawings.
This invention relates to door locks and latches and more artioularly to the keeper plate thereof whic is secured to the frame of the door to engage the locking bolts or latches.
The object of the invention is to provide the keeper plate with simple and convenient means to take up any loose play due to shrinking of doors or door casings and prevent the rattling thereof.
To this end the invention consists in an adjusting device applied to the keeper plate so that i the knob latch should have a loose play in the keeper this looseness may be readily taken up without interferin with the keeper plate all as more fully heremafter described and shown in the accompanying drawings, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the keeper plate embodying my invention, the new showing the rear side of the plate; Fig. 2 is an elevation of the rear side of the keeper plate; and Fig. 3 is a cross section on llne xa*, Fig. 2 showing by dotted lines its position in the door frame.
The device consists of the stationary keeper plate 1 provided in its respective ends with the screw holes 2 for the insertion of the usual screws in securing the same to the door frame. The keeper plate has the usual slot opening 3 for the reception of the knob latch except that the opening is made a little wider 1n its horizontal dimension to afford additional room for the inturned lip 4 formed at the front end of an adjusting late side of the lock strike of the keeper plate b means of a screw or headed in 6" whic passes through a slot 7 in t e adjusting plate.
The adjusting plate 5 is rovided with an offset forming an ear 8 and a corresponding offset or ear 1s rovided on the front edge of the strike oft e keeper plate and through these ears passes an adjusting screw. 10 in such manner that by turning the screw, the adjusting plate 5 can be moved in relation to the keeper plate.
As shown in Fig. 3 the inner end of the adjustingplate with the lip 4 which guides the lates 1n the opening, ositions the knob therein and thus i by shrinkage or otherwise the knob latch should have a loose play therein, it can be readily taken up by means of the adjusting screw which is exposed and readily accessible allowing the adjustment to be made accurately and qulckly while the door is closed.
My device thus accomplishes the ob ect of the invention in a very simple manner and does away with the trouble of resetting the kee er plate which requires particular sk1ll.-
at I claim as my invention is The combination with a keeper late of a door latch or lock having a late strike extendin out in front beyond the portion covered the edge of the door, of a plate horizonta 1y adjustably secured to the back of said latch strike and having its rear edge formed with a vertical off-set pro ect ng into the latch opening and formlng the front wall of said opening. v
In testimon whereof I afiix my signature in presence 0 two witnesses.
