Specification of Letters Patent. fApplieation filed April 11 1910. Serial No. 554,698;
Patented July 12,1910.
ISER and MONTGOMERY J. 'ZIAHNISER, citizens' of the United States, residing at Washington, in the county of Washington and State of Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful- Improvements in Foundations for Derricks; and we dohereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to makea'nd use the same, reference being bad to the accompanying drawin s, and to the letters ofreference marked tereon, which form a part of this specification.
This invention relates to new. and useful improvements in derrick foundations and the object in view is to producea simple and eflicient device of this nature dispensing with bolts and threads in the corner ]o1nts and providing a smooth socket easily adjusted andalso providing a sectional rin for holding the fitting in position and a fords means for allowing the brace rods to draw the derrick together in such a mannerth'at the tension will be uted upon the different parts.
equally distrib- Our invention oompnses various details of const-ructlon, comblnatlons and arrangements of parts WhlCh will be hereinafter lifully described and then specifically defined in the appended claims.
, Our invention is illustrated in the accomfpanying drawings, in which .F1 re 1 is a top plan view'of a derrick foun ationiembodying the features of our invention, and Fig. 2 1s an edge View.v
' ed to be fastened thereto in any suit'a le.
Reference now being had to the details of, the drawings by letter,'- A designates a top saddle casting havin a socketfor the reception of the leg of a errick and ada tmanner, and B is a double saddle which permits the pipes D and E to lie at right an les to each other and hold thesame in suc ositions.
C esignates a base saddle upon which the lower sill or' pipe D rests, the adjacent faces of said saddles B and 'baseC'being concaved upon their ad'acent faces. to conform to the pipe or s' D which they engage. The bolts F pass through registerin a ertures formed in thefla of the sa d as and nuts F upon the olts serve to hcld' the saddles securely against the tubes engaged thereby. Positioned underneaththe basesaddle is a casting H=having fastened thereto by threaded connection section D which is also secured to the base saddle in any suitable manner.-
It will be noted that the pipes K which are positioned intermediate the end pipes E are held by asingle saddle O' resting upon the pipes D having their upper edges concaved for the reception of the pipes K, and a U-shaped strap or rod Q passes underneath the pipe or sill D and passes through apertures 1n the bars R, nuts S being fastened upon the ends of said strap and which, when tightened, serve to .draw the ed positlons.
From the foregoing, it will be noted that, by the provision of a foundation made in and efiicient apparatus is afforded which will securely hold the corners against unusual strain which might come u on the same in-= cidentto the use of the derrick held thereby.
What we claim to be new is:-
lL-A derrick foundation comprising a plurality of sills spaced apart,'double saddle castings mounted thereon, sills supported upon said saddles, socket saddles restin upon' the top sills, and boltsclamping sai saddles against the sills.
upon said sills-and conforming'to the con-- tour of the latter, a second series of sills resting-in concaved portions of the double saddles,- top saddles enga ing said second series of s1l1s and provided with sockets adapted to receive and hold the up ht frames of the derrick, and means for ho din the saddles in Si S. Y: v
3. A derrick foundation comprising two under sills-spaced apart, base saddles upon which said sills rest, double saddles resting upon said sillsand conforming to the contour of the latter, a second series of sills resting in concaved portions of the double saddles, top saddles engaging said second series of sills and provided with sockets adapted to receive and hold the upright frames of the derrick, said saddles havmg laterally projecting flanges which are proclamping relation. to the vided with registering apertures, retaining bolts passing through said registering apertures, and means for holding the saddles in clamping relation with the sills.
5 4.' A derrick foundation comprising two under sills spaced apart, base saddles upon which saidsills rest, double saddles resting upon said sills and conforming to the contour of the latter, a second series of sills 10 resting in concaved portions of the double saddles, top saddles engaging said second series of sills and provided with sockets adapted to receive and hold the upright frames of the derrick, said saddles having 15 laterally projecting flanges which are provided with registering apertures, retaining bolts passing through said registering aper-- tures, means for holding the saddles in clamping relation with the sills, a support underneath the. base saddle, and a pipe con- 20 necting the latter with said base.
7 In testimonv whereof we hereunto affix our slgnatures 1n the presence of two wit- IlGSSGS.
