Description

G. HABIG. ELEGTRIG LAMP SHADE HOLDER.
APPLIOATIONI'ILBD NOV. 13, 1909.
Patented July 12, 1910 screw which has been NITED s'ra'rns PATENT ornrcn l GEORGE HABIG, OF LOS ANGELES" CALIFORNIA.
ELECTRIC-LAMP-SHADE HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented July '12, 191@.
' Application filed November 13, 1909. Serial No. 527,938.
State of California, have invented certain new anduseful Improvements in Electric- Lamp-Shade Holders, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to new and useful improvements in electric lamp shade holders, and is designed to provide for the quick adjustment of the same to the socket.
It contemplates in its construction the elimination of the screw which has heretofore been used in attaching lamp shade holders to thesocket, and as a consequence thereof facilitate the operation of attaching the holder.
With the above and other objects in view this invention consists in the construction, combination, and arrangement of parts, all as hereinafter more fully described, claimed,
and illustrateddn the accompanying drawings, wherein: p Figure 1 is a plan view of a holder constructed in accordance with the present in vention; Fig; 2 is a side elevation of the same illustrating in dotted lines the position taken by the clamping band when released by the catch; Fig. 3 is a section along the line 3- 3 of Fig. 1, illustrating the means whereby the clamping band. is secured; Fig. 1 is a perspective view of the catch; Fig. 5 is'a side elevation of a modification thereof.
The electric lamp shade holder forming the subject-matter of the present invention resides in the provision of a recessed pivoted catch adapted to swing over the projecting ends of the clamping band and hold the same in itsoperative position, in lieu of the threaded in said ends heretofore. I Referring particularly to the, drawin s, 10 indicates a shade ring constructed in t e usual manner having thedownwardly projecting ears 11 through the orifices 12' of whichscrews are threaded to engage the shade. A pair of webs 13 are provided on the innenside of'said ring and support at their inner terminals the clamping band 14.
The terminals of this clamping band 14 are bent outwardly to form the arms 15, the forward extremities 16 of which are reduced and adapted to reciprocate in the keeper 17.
Pivotallyconnected to one extremity of the keeper is the catch 18 which is approximately .rectangular in formation and has. formed on the upper edge thereof opposite to the pivot l9 the outwardly prqectmg lug 20. A recess 21 is formed midway of the lower side and is adapted to engage the ends or arms 15 of the clamping band between the shoulder 22 thereof and the keeper. This construction prevents any lateral displacement of the catch and also prevents the same from being easily loosened when in its operative position. lVhen the shade holder is being applied to chandeliers or sockets of standard size, the catch hereinbefore described engages the ends'l5 in such a manner that the clamping band is brought to bear on the socket to a sufiicient degree to support the shade. If, 'however, sockets of different sizes occur a modification of the catch as illustrated in Fig. 5 is used having the central orifice 21' formed therein with auxiliary orifices. or recesses 23 on each side thereof; This construction permits the ad 'justment of the {clamping band to three diffeilent sizes of sockets i. e.'thatsize when both the arms 15 are retained in the recess 21'; when one is retained in 23 and the other in 22, and when both are retained in the recesses 23.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
1. lamp shade holder, comprising a shade ring protided with a keeper, a clamp ing ring carried by said shade ring, having the terminals thereof reduced and adapted to reciprocate in said keeper, and pivotal means whereby said terminals may be retained in a contracted position.
2. A lamp shade holder comprising a shade ring provided with a keeper, a clamping ring supported by said shade ring having its terminals reduced in the keeper, and a catch pivoted tosa-id keeper adapted to engage said arms and retain-the same in their operative position.
3. A lamp shade holder, comprising a shade ring provided with'a keeper, aclamping ring supported by said. shade ring having its terminals reduced and in the keeper, and a catch having an outwardly projecting lug whereby the same may be raised and lowered, adapted to engage said reduced portions between the shoulder and the keeper and retain the clamping ring in its operative position.
4. A lamp shade holder, comprising a clamping band in its operative position.
5. A lamp shade holder comprising a shade ring, a keeper, a clamping ring supported by said. shade ring having its terminals reduced and adapted to reciprocate 1,0 in said keeper, and an adjustable catch vided With a plurality of recesses therein which, Provide said adjustment.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature 15 in presence of two Witnesses.
