Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed February 13, 1909.
rare-atea nay si, loro'. Serial No. 477,831.
'To all whom it may concern:
view, the invention consists of certain novel Be it known that l, Virement D. inlener, a c1tizen oit-the United States ot America, and a resident oli Hallettsville, in the county .of Lavaca and State of Texas, have invented certain new and usetul 'improvements in lnk-Bottle Holders for Desks, or" which the following is a specification.
rlhis invention relates to an' improved holder for ink bottles adapted for attachment to desks.
rEhe object of the invention is to provide a simply constructed and eiiicient holder especially adapted for holding an ordinary ink bottle in the' hole formed in the tops of' the school desks now in use, said holder b eing designed as a substitute for the holders sold with the desks and which are objectionablein that they allow the ink to evaporate.
N ith the foregoing and other objects infeatures of construction7 combination. and arrangement of parts, described and particularly pointed out in the appended claim. c
In the accompanying drawings, Figure l represents a -vertical sectional view ot a porf tion of a desk with this improved ink bottle is shown preferably thereof connected at their holder applied. Fig. 2 is a similar view taken on line 2-2 of` Fig. l.' Fig. 3 is a perspective view of the holder detached.
In the embodiment illustrated, a frame l constructed of a strong resilient oblong Wire loop bent to form two substantially U-shaped members 2 and 3, with the free ends of the legs as Ll and 5 free ends, said bent inwardly toward each other intermediately of their ends as shown at l0, to adapt them to conform to the shape ol? the ink bottle A to be supported the .by The free ends 6 and 7 of these legs and 5 are bent or flared outlegs being at a point Wardl in osite directions to 'form resili- Aent c amp members for engaging the walls of tl opening B Ain the desk top C at diametricali. opposite points, whereby the holder is detachably connect-ed with the as will be more fully desk. lThe cross bars 8 and 9 of the members 2 and 3 are spaced laterally apart to form a. scat tor thebottom of the bottle A. and
the legs of the respect1ve members are also spaced apart and converge toward their free ends as shown.
ln the use of this holder, an ordinary ink bottle A is placed in the frame l by spreading the legs thereofv apart. This frame is then placed under the desk top and the legs 4: and 5 are pressed together and vinserted through the ink Well opening Bin said top C luntil the inwardly bent portions 10 thereof areopposite the walls of said opening..
rlhe legs are vthen released and the/resiliency thereof will cause them to spring outwardly in opposite directions and enga e the walls of the opening B, thereby firm supporting the ink bottle in operative posution with the mouth thereof projecting above the top of the desk. It Will be obvious that the bottle so supported maybe provided with the usual' stopper D which may be inserted and removed when desired.
From the foregoing description taken in connection with .the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention Will be readily understood Without requirin a more extended explanation.'
Various c anges and the minor details o'construction may be resorted to Without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of the invention, as defined in the appended claim.
What is claimed as new is: An ink bottle holder comprising a resilient Wire oblong loop bent to form a substantially U-shaped member with the cross bars and legs formed' by the respective sides of the loop spaced laterally apart.
In testimony whereof, l atiix my signature in presence of two Witnesses.
Mrs. Bnn'r PETERSON, PAUL APPELT.
