AUGUSTA UNDERGARMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 17, 1910.
Application filed June 29, 1908. Serial 110.440,?82.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, GEORGE S. MARVILLE, of Riegelsville,-in the county of Bucks and Stateof Pennsylvania, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Undergarments; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, which will enable others skilled in the 'art'to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to theyletters of reference marked thereon, which form part of this specification;
The object of my invention is to-provide an undergarment of im roved construction, whereby it is'better'a apted to withstand wear and is sim le in construction and inexpensive topro uce as compared with its Figure 1 shows a rear view of the garment of my improved construction. Fig. 2 shows on a reduced scale a section of tubular fabric from which the garment may be, constructed,
showing in dotted lines the cuts made to produce the several pieces.
The piece of tubular fabric shown in Fig. 2 has knitted in at intervals reinforced sections wa,while the remainder of the tube is of the ordinary knit. The reinforced sections w-a maybe produced by running in additional threads as the tube IS knitted, or by introducing threads of larger quality and stron rmaterial. To produce the pieces for t es arment when the tube is collapsed and hi out flat, both folds are cut on the substantially stra' ht line b- -b extending diagonally across t e tube and terminating at each end at the reinforced sections. Both gores 0-0 are then severed by cutting on nature, in
V the line dd through both folds of the fab- The bodies are then slitted from' b to e. This provides two main pieces, consisting of the leg portion 7'' andvthe body portion g, including the reinforced section and two gore pieces cc. These are then assembled in the form shown in Fig. 1, the
inside of the leg being seamed as indicated at h, the gore pleces compiled and sewed in as shown 1n Fig. 1', and the body sections secured together in a. rear seam as j in an obvious manner. This provides a garment having the reinforced sections of the fabric located at the points subjected to greatest wear, and utilizes the entire material of the tubular fabric without loss or waste in the production of the garment.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is: v
A bifurcated undergarment composed of knit fabric "having integral reinforced sections and a portion ofwhich fabric has been divided dia onally, the edges of'said diagonally divi ed portion of the fabric being secured to ether to form the tubular leg portions of the garment, the waist and hip,
or non-bifurcated portion of the garment,
comprising tapering gores secured in (place in the crotchpart of the garment, an the reinforced sections of knitted fabric being disposed to form a reinforced zone which is mamly at the hip portion of the garment.
In witness whereof, I have aiiixed my sigpresence of two wltnesses, this June 1908. .GEORGE S. MARVILLE. Witnesses:
SARAH E. Cmnx, -EMMA'S. Hesse.
