GUY-Wm CONNECTION FOR LAND-ANCHOBS.
iii.
Specification Letters Patent.
Patented May 10, 1910.
Application filed April 88, IP89. Serial No. 482,199.
To a? Z whom it may concern:
Be it known tl'at T, Fimxn M. Vims, a
citizen of tie United ,lltztezr, residing at Fitcllttnzf, in do county of \Vorcccter 21rd State of Pl'issacliusctts, have invented certain new and useful .l'nzprovements in Guy- Vire Connections for Land-Anchors, of
which the following is a specification.
erally to improve this class of devices so as to increase their utility, durability, and efficiency.
Further ob'ects and advantages will appear in the ollowing description, it being understood that various changw in form, proportions and minor details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the ap ended claims.
For a all understanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire "a knowledge of the details of construction and the means for effecting the result, reference is to be had to the following description and accompanying drawings, in whica: Figure 1 is a erspective view of a guy rod constructed in accordance with my iii-- vention; Fig. 2 is a front elevation of the same, one of the clam) sections being removed and the wrench s own in engagement with the lug or pin; Fi 3 is a transverse sectional view taken on he line-33 of Fig. 2 and looking in the direction of the arrow; Fig. 4 is a transverse sectional view of the wire clam Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the operating tool--or wrench.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following descri tion and indicated in all the views of tie drawings by the same reference characters. The in: :rcvcd device forming the subject nzatter o tlte present invention comprise; spaced rod sections 5 and C- having their inner ends provided with right and left hand threads respectively, for en agcment with the correspondir. ly threadet sockets of a turn buckle 7 0 any approved construction.
Secured to or formed integral with the upper end of the rod section 5, is an elongated enlargement 8 constituting the relatively stationary section of a clamping member, the mating section 9 of the clamping i!l(."-l)(.t' being similar in cruizrtm'zti'rn to the section 8 and fltiiitfllf-tbl) t-Ol'tltiil thereto by bolts or similar fastening devices 10.
The inner faces of the c amp sections 8 and 9 are provided with long tudinally disposed seating groove:' 11 for the reception of the adjacent strands of a guy wire, indicated at 12. The intermediate portion of the guy wire 12 is extended through a transverse opening 13 formed in the rod section while the opposite ends thereof are extended between the clampin members 8 and 9 and secured in any suite-1 le manner to u tele raph pole or other structure to be brace If desired, a bolt or pin 14 may be extended through the opening 13 to assist in retaining the wire in position, and in some cases, the end of the wire instead of being passedthrcu h the opening 13, may be secured to said olt.
The lower end of the rod section 6 is extended through an anchoring member or block 15, and is provided with terminal right hand threads 16 for engagement with a suitable nut 17, there being a washer or wear plate 18 inter osed between the nut 17 and the adjacent ace of the anchoring member 15 to assist in preventin accidental displacement of the lower rod section.
Secured to or formed integral with the intermediate portion of the rod section 6,
are lateral projections, preferably in the form of wedge shaped lugs 11), the cutting edges-2O of which are adapted to be driven or embedded in the adjacent surface of the anchoring member 15 so as to prevent accidental turning of the rod 6 when the turn buckle 7 is adjusted to effect the tension of the uy wire 12.
T e headed ends of the clamping nuts 10 are provided with sguare shanks which engage corres onding y squared sockets or recesses 21 ormed in the clam ing member 8, suitable clampin nuts 22 being threaded on the terminals 0 the clamping bolts and arranged to bear against the outer face of the clamp section 9, thereby to firmly clamp said section in engagement with the guy wire.
In order to prevent twistin or turning movement of the wire clamp w ion the turn buckle 7 is adjusted, a suitable tool or wrench 23 is provided, one end of which is bent to produce a laterally extending arm 24 having one or more apertures 25 formed therein and adapted to receive a pin or r0 jection 26 extending laterally from one -ongitudinal edge of the clamping member 8, the opposite end of the wrench 23 being formed with a square socket 27 to facilitate ad'usting the several clamping nuts.
in operation, the anchoring member 15 and lower rod section 6 are embedded in the ground, after which the guy wire 12 is threaded through the clampin sections 8 and 9 and the nuts 22 adjusted by turnin the same with the wrench 23. The wrenc 1 is then positioned on the clamping member with the pin 26 extending through one of the o enings 24 in the wrench as best shown in Iig. 2 of the drawings, and in which positlon it may be he (1 a ainst accidental turning movement when t 10 turn buckle 7 is adjusted to regulate thetension of the guylw re.
avmg thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
l. A device of the class described including spaced rod sections having their inner on s rovided with ri ht and left hand thread respectivel a c amp carried by one of the rod sections or en ement with a guy Wire means carried by t e other rod section for engagement with one side of an anchor, a turn buckle engagin the threaded ends of the rod sections, an a wedge shaped member ri 'dly secured to the'lower rod section and a opted to be embedded in another side of said anchor for preventing rotary move ment of the lower rod section when the turn buckle is adjusted.
2. A device of the class described including rod sections havin their inner ends threaded, a clamp earrie by one of the rod sections for en agement with a guy wire, means carried y the other rod section for enga meat with one side of an anchor, a turn uckle engagin the inner ends of the rod sections for regul ating the tension of the guy wire, and lateral pro ections rigidly secured to the lower rod section in spaced relation to the anchor en ging means and adapted to be embedde in another side of senses said anchor for preventing rotary movement of said lower rod section when the turn buckle is adjusted.
3. A device of theclass described comprising rod sections havin their inner ends threaded, one of said ro sections being ro vided with means for en gement wit. a guy wire, mwns carried E the lower rod section for engagement wit one side of an anchor, a turn buckle engaging the threads on the rod sections, and wedge-shaped lugs rigidl secured to the lower rod section In space relationto the anchor engagin means and adapted to be embedded in anot er side of the anchor for preventing turnin movement of said lower rod section when t e turn buckle is rotated.
4. A device of the class described includ; ing rod sections havin their inner ends threaded, one of said ro sections being provided with a clam for engagement with a guy wire and the ot ier section provided with means for engagement with an anchor, a turn buckle formin a connection between the rod sections an engaging the threaded ends thereof, and a in extending laterally from the clamp and adapted to enga e a wrench for preventing rotation of the c amp when the turn buckle is ad'usted.
5. A. device of the class escribed including upper and lower rod sections havinfg their inner ends provided with right and le t hand threads respectively, one of said rod sections being provided with a clamp for engagement with a. guy wire, the lower end of the lower rod section bein provided with threads, the pitch of which 18 different from the itch of the thrmds at the up r end oi the lower rod section, a turn bu e engagin the right and left hand threads of said ro sections, laterally extending wedge shaped lugs rigidly secured to the .ower rod section for engagement with one side of an anchor, a nut engaging the lower threads on the lug carrying section for enga ment with another side 0; said anchor, an a pin extending laterally from the clamp for engagement with a wrench, thereby to revent turning movement of said clamp w on the turn buckle is rotated.
In testimon whereof I afiix my signature in presence 0 two witnesses.
