SPOKANE, WASHINGTON ASSIGNOR OF ONE-HALF TO CHESTER I I1. JENSEN, 0F SPOKANE, WASHINGTON.
PAID-HOLDER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed June 3, 1909. Serial No.'499,981.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that 'I, LONNIE A. LAHEY, citizen of the United States, residing at Spokane, in the county of Spokane and State of Washington, have. invented certain new and useful Improvements in Pad-Holders, of which the following is a specification.
The object of this invention is a simple and eificient construction of holder for a note book or scratch pad and is designed particularly for use by waiters, the pad holder being so arranged that it may be easily secured to ones forearm near the wrist, so as to leave the hands free while at the pad always in a convenient position or writing orders, or other memoranda thereon. With this and other objects in view that will more fully appear as the description proceeds, the invention consists in certain constructions and arrangements of the parts appended claims.
For a full understanding of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction, reference is to be had to the'following description and accompanying drawing, 111 which: Figure 1 is a perspective view illustrating the application of my improved pad holder. Fig. 2 is a similar view of the device detached, the pad being omitted, and Fig. 3 is a longitudinal section thereof.
Correspo ding and like parts are referred to' in the foFlowing description and indicated in all the views'of the drawing by the same reference characters.
Referring to the drawing, the numeral 1 designates the frame or base of this im proved pad holdin device, the same being constructed out 0 other material, and being of any desired size according to the size of the pad which it is intended to hold. The frame or base 1 is provided with side retaining flanges 2 and'with 'one returned end? which forms a pocket in any desired metal, or
formed by slitting the base or frame 1 in an evident manner. Preferably, the flanges 2 are formed with recesses 8 near one end, so as to accommodate the pad retaining band 6.
Patented May '3, 1910.
passed underneath a tongue 7 which is In order to secure the device to ones arm, 1
for a convenient position in use, an elastic clasp 9 is provided, said clasp being com osed ofa-strip of elastic webbing or the 1' e of any desired width and length, the same being passed through slots 10 formed in the base 1 and being provided at its ends with separable. fastener members 11, so that said ends may be secured together after encir clmg the arm. v
From the foregoing description in 'connection with the accompanyin drawing, the practical operation of the pad vious. In the practical use of the device, after the pad or memorandum book has been slipped into the frame or base'I and held thereto by means of the retaining band 6, the ends of the clasp 9 may be secured together around the forearm of awaiter or the like, so that the pad may be at all'times in convenient position for receiving notes, memoranda, or orders, while, at the same time it will 1n no wise be in the way, but will leave both hands free at all times.
It is to be particularly notedthat the recess 8 will permit the band 6 to s ring inwardly nearer the bottom portion 0 the pad holder, than would be the case if these recesses were not rovided. By this means the book or pad w' 1 be securely held at the'end opposite the face of the holder so long as 2. As a new article of manufacture, the
holder is 'obherein described pad holder comprising a base provided at one end with means for holding one end of a pad and alsoprovided with side flanges and with recesses in said flanges between the opposite ends of the eaaeea,
base, and a pad retaining band secured to ing a tongue and a pad retaining band enthe base and extending across the upper face circling said base and passing through said thereof and through said recesses. tongue and recesses, as and for the purpose 3. As a new article of manufacture, the set forth.
5 herein described pad comprising a base In testimony whereof I affix my signature 15 formed at one end with means for holding in presence of two witnesses.
