7 To all 'whom'lt may concm:-

SHOE-CLEANER.
Be it known that I, Ennns'r L. DAIILFUES, a citizen of the United States, residing at San Die 0, in the county ofSan' Diego and State 0 California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Shoe- ,Clean'ers, of which the following is a speci: fication. Y
My invention relates to improvements in shoe cleaners, and has for'its objects, to pro-v vide simple and eiiicient means for scrapin r and cleaning the shoes to free them of mu and dirt, such meansbeing adapted for ready attachment to z. d0or-step, porch or other convenient locationand so constructed that the brushes and scraper of said cleaner '5 are easily taken out and othersinstalled when it is desired to renew either of these parts. I attain these objects by the appara tus illustrated in the accompanying'drawe in? in whichigure 1 is a plan view of my improved shoe cleaner: Fig-2a side elevation thereof and Fig. 3 a cross section online A B, Fig. 1.
Similar characters of reference referto similar parts throughout the several views.
The frame 1, the stand 2, the brushes 3, 4:
and 5, the brush retaining bar 6, the scraper 7, and the scra r brackets 8 constitute the parts of my s oe-cleaner.
The-(frame 1 is made a. trifle longer than the brushes 3,4 and 5 which are common brushes, and said frame isso made as to provide three recesses adapted to lit and envelop thebacks of the brushes 3, 4 and 5, the front end 1 of said recesses being partially Specification of Letters Patei'it. a lication filed April 15, 1909. Sean No. 490,133.
closed against which the ends of the brushes set when inserted -in said recesses.
The 1 brush 3 is wider-than the others and is for'cleaning the bottom of the soles of the shoes while the others are for cleaning the 2 sides of the soles and shoes. At the back end '1". said frame is provided with a'brush retaining bar 6, which is provided with holes in each end into which are inserted the bolt portion 8 of the scraper brackets 8 which hold said bar 6 in place b means of nuts 8 7 screwed onto the lower on s of said bolt portions 8 of said brackets 8, said bolt portions act supports for the purpose of holding the side brushes fl: and 5 in place while the bar 6 holds the lower brush 3 in place.
The upper and-extended ortions of the scraper brackets 8 are provi ed with uare Patented Apr. 19,1910.
holes at 8 adapted'to fit the square on of the scraper 7, said square ends of the scraper extending-through the brackets 8 when the shoe-cleaner is assembled as shown. This 5 shoe-cleaner is provided with a curved bracket stand 2, to which it is fastened at 2" and said stand may be attached to a porch. g
or steps 2" where itis desired to place the same: this stand may be of different shape,
but I prefer to make it this shape so thatthe shoe-cleaner: may extend out from said porch or steps so as to allow the dirt to drop to the ground below.
It can be readily seen-with this construe I a tion that by removi-ngthe nuts 8 and then removing the brackets 8, bar 6 will be re-. f
leased and all three of the brushes can then" be easily removed and that the scraper brackets and the scraper would be taken off thereby leaving all. the parts separate ,for cleaning. 1 V Having thus described my invention what I claim is: I
1. A shoe cleaner, comprising a plurality of brushes, a frame provided with bottom and side recesses adapted. to hold said brushes, the flexible portions of said brushes exit-ruling upward and inward, extension brackets provided with extension bolts attached to one end of sald frame by means of said extension bolts, a scraper on the ouler ends of said brackets, a bar provided with holes in each end extending across said frame and attached thereto by means of said bolts and a curved bracket'stand for supporting said shoe cleaner all substantially as set forth.
2. A shoe cleaner, brushes, a frame having a bottom and two side recesses for holding said. brushes, the
comprising three upward and the side brushes inward, a do tachable bar attached to the lower and back.
flexible portion of the bottom brush being side bf saidf-fr'ame adapted to hold said bot- .sup orting said frame, all substantially as tgm-bmshinjsaid bottom recess a. scraper setorth. bi aekets extending ppward and backwar In testimony-whereof I affix my signature and carrying said'sempeiat their outer ends, in presenceof two witnesses; 5 said brackets being rovided-with exte n.
v e s ERNEST L. DAHLF UES. 'sion' 'bglts set into; $21151 7 frame for holding Witnesses: said 'sgde brushes in said side-recesses, nuts CA'sBIUs CARTE -Jr.',
