UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
SAMUEL MONTGOMERY, OF STOCKTON, CALIFORNIA.
TABORET-BATH.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, SAMUEL MONTGOMERY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Stockton, in the county of San Joaquin and State of California, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Taboret- Baths; and I do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and the characters of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this application.
This invention relates to baths and particularly to small portable bath apparatus such as a sitz or taboret bath, the object of the invention being to produce a bath which will have a self heater of simple and effective construction; a bath tub having an advantageous position for the purpose and being of simple and inexpensive construction, and an enveloping robe for enveloping the bath and bather during operation, whereby the cold air may be excluded and the bather may be hidden from view during the bath; also to produce a device having an on tire simplicity of structure and yet one which is eifective for all purposes. These objects I accomplish by means of a supported tub of simple construction, an alcohol lamp of sim ple construction disposed beneath said tub and a water proof enveloping robe disposed over the whole; such parts being constructed and relatively arranged in a manner as will appear more fully by a perusal of the following specification and claims.
In the drawings similar characters of ref erence indicate corresponding parts in the several views.
Figure 1 is a perspective view of the bath and burner. Fig. 2 is a sectional view taken on a line w :0 of Fig. 1. Fig. 3 is a side elevation of a bath robe enveloped around a man and bathing apparatus. Fig. 4 is a sectional view taken on a line y 1 of Fig. 1. Fig. 5 is a fragmentary sectional View of a burner cup. Fig. 6 is a similar view to that shown in Fig. 3 showing the robe in a different position.
Referring now more particularly to the characters of reference on the drawings 1 designates the supporting platform of the device on which are supporting legs 2 sustaining an upper ring or band 3, there being Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed May 22, 1908.
Patented Apr. 19, 1910. Serial No. 434,245.
cross rods 4 on said legs 2 spaced below said ring 3 for the purpose as Will appear.
Seated on the rods 4 and resting in the ring 3 is a tub 5 which tub is formed of folded metal to permit of being made of one piece, and is provided with a one piece overlapping to rim or edge 5 This tub is for use as a oot tub, or general sitz tub as shown in Figs. 3 and 6.
Hanging downward from the rods 4 is a radiator formed of an outer inverted bell or hood 6 formed of folded metal as shown, spaced within which hood 6 is a similar member 7 open at its upper and lower ends.
Beneath the radiator just described is placed an alcohol lamp or burner 8 which is formed of an outwardly flaring portion having a bottom cup 9 into which is pressed an auxiliary cup 10 having a plurality of grooves 11 in its outer sides, while 12 is a supply pipe leading from a storage tank 13 through the bottom of the cup 10 whereby the alcohol passes between the cups 10 and '9 and becomes gasified and escapes through the grooves 11 into the burner 8 where it is ignited and the heat is radiated by the radiator 67, thereby keeping the tub 5 and its contents warm and also deflecting the heat onto the platform 1 and keeping the same warmth to the feet of the operator. In the side of the member 8 a short distance above the cup 10 are a plurality of orifices 14 which admit air to the burning flame thus aiding in producing perfect and economical combustion. In the top of the member 8 may be placed a receptacle 15 for heating water or for any other similar purpose. The tank 13 is provided with a valve control 16 for controlling the amount of flow into the generating cup 9.
In using this bath the operator has a robe 17 provided with a neck 18 having pull strings 19 whereby the robe may be secured tightly at any point on the body as shown in Figs. 3 or 6 or it may be secured around the waist, knee, chest, arm or other portion to be bathed, thus keeping the cold air out from the portion being bathed and also keeping the same from being exposed to the gaze of others.
From the foregoing description it will be seen I have produced a taboret bath apparatus of exceeding simplicity and effect iveness and one which is provided with a heater excellently adapted for the purpose.
The tub also is of such construction as to permit of a bath of any size to be taken with ease and comfort, while the robe 17 aids in the same as described.
This bath is especially designed for bed rooms or places having no other bath c011- veniences or for taking medicated vapor baths or the like where it is necessary to confine the vapors.
While this specification sets forth in detail the present and preferred construction of my device, still in practice such deviations from such detail may be resorted to as do not form a departure from the spirit of the invention.
Having thus described my invention what I claim as new and useful and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A heater for baths comprising a support, a cup maintained by said support, an outwardly flaring upper portion on said cup, said flaring portion being a component part of said cup upward from the top edge thereof, an auxiliary cup fitted snugly into said cup and having a plurality of vertical grooves in its side, a fuel supply pipe discharging through said auxiliary cup from above and a plurality of transverse orifices in said flaring member just above said auxiliary cup.
2. A heater for baths comprising a base having a bottom cup, a flaring corrugated portion to form a component part of said cup and projecting from the top edge thereof, an auxiliary cup snugly fitted into said bottom cup and having a plurality of vertical grooves in its sides communicating from the bottom to the top of said bottom cup, the top edge of said auxiliary cup being flush with the top edge of said bot-tom cup, said flaring portion having transverse ports opening just above said edges, and a fuel supply pipe leading through the bottom of said auxiliary cup into said bottom cup.
In testimony whereof I afiix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
