H. G. BENEDICT.
SASH HOLDER.
APPLICATION FILED AUG. 28, 1909.

LUNTTED @TATEE PATENT @FFTQE.
HORACE G. BENEDICT, OF HASTINGS, NEBRASKA.
SASH-HOLDER.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HORACE G. Bnmcnror, a citizen of the United States, residing at Hastings, in the county of Adams and State of Nebraska, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sash-Holders, of which the following is a specification, reference being had tothe accompanying draw- 1ngs.
My invention relates to improvements in devices for fastening or holding window sashes, and more particularly one which may be used on sashes not provided with balance weights.
The object of the invention is to provide a simple and inexpensive window stop or holder of this character which may be produced at a small cost and readily applied to a window, and which will effectively hold it in adjusted position.
With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists of t1 0 novel construc tion, combination and arrangements of parts, hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawings, in which Figure l is a detail View of a portion of a window frame showing the application of the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical section taken on the plane indicated by the line 22 in Fig. 1, and Fig. 3 is a detail perspective view of the device or holder removed from the sash.
Referring more particularly to the drawings, 1 denotes a portion of a window frame, 2 a sliding sash therein and 3 the attaching member or plate of my improved sash holder. This member is of rigl'it-angular form having a flat base portion 4 to rest upon the upper edge of thesash 2 adjacent one of its sides "and apertured as at 5 for the reception of screws or similar fastenings whereby it is secured in position. The member 3 also comprises a pair of spaced upright lugs or ears 6 between which is mounted a Specification of Letters Patent.

Serial No. 515,050.
movable locking plate or cam '7, the latter being in the form of a flat plate which is substantially semicircular in shape and having on its curved edge transverse teeth or serrations 8 adapted to engage the frame 1 to hold the sash 2 in adjusted position. Said plate 7 is formed adjacent one of its ends with a longitudinally curved or arch shaped slot 9 to receive a fixed pivot pin 10 arranged in the spaced lugs or ears 6. The
locking plate 7 swings and slides bodily on the stationary pivot pin 10 and owing to the peculiar shape and disposition of the slot 9 and the roughened cam face 10, it will be seen that when the projecting end 11 of the locking plate, which end forms a finger piece, is depressed, the roughened or serrated edge 8 will be forced into engagement with the frame 1 to frictionally lock the sash in adjusted position. \Vhen the parts are in such position shown in Fig. 1, the weight of the sash will tend to move the locking plate 7 still farther in the same direction so that said locking plate acts as a cam or wedge and effectively prevents the sash from dropping.
Having thus described the invention what is claimed is:
A. device of the character described, comprising an angular attaching member consisting of an apertured base plate and spaced upright ears rising from said base plate a transverse pin uniting said lugs or ears, and a locking plate arranged for sliding and swinging movement between said lugs or cars and having an arch-shaped slot to receive said pin, and a curved or cam-shaped serrated edge substantially as shown and described.
In testimony whereof I hereunto aflix my signature in the presence of two witnesses.
HORACE G. BENEDICT.
lYitnesses: I
G. A. GATES, J. H. RODGERS.
