RIPPING AND TRIMMING IMPLEMENT.
crasse.
Application led May 3, 1909. Serial No. 493,759.
.o all whom 'it may concern:
Be it known that I, JENNIE BLANCHE VEIR, a citizen of the United States, residing at Lebanon, in the county of Wilson and State of Tennessee, have invented new and useful Improvements in Ripping and Trimming Implements, of which the following is a specication.
My invention is directed to the provision of means which shall permit the utilization of worn out safety razor blades, and broadly and generally speaking it comprises a holder constructed to have one-half of a safety razor blade secured thereto, such holder and blade comprising an implement which may be used for ripping seams, trimming corns, and other purposes.
Afurther object of the invention is the provision of a seam ripping and corn trimming implement which shall be simple, durable and etlicient, and which may be manufacured and sold at a comparatively low` cos With the above and other objects in view, the invention consists in the construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed, and illustrated in the accompanying drawing, wherein r- Figure 1 is a top plan view of a ripping and trimmingl implement constructed in accordance wit my invention. Fig. 2 is a View in side elevation, portions of the clamp and the handle being in vertical section. Fig. 3 is a sectional view taken on a planeextending horizontally through the clamp of the implement. Fig. 4 is a View in side elevation of the clamp.
Like reference characters are used to designate corresponding parts throughout the several views.
.The holder of my improved ripping and trimming implement comprises a handle 1 and a clamp 2, the blade 3 of the implement being secured to the handle through the mel dium of the clamp.
The handle 1 may be constructed of wood, metal or any other material suitable for the purpose, and it is provided with a longitudinally extending groove or bore 4, which o ens out through the inner end thereof, and w ich terminates at its inner end in an enlarged socketI 5.
The clamp is constructed of a single len th of spring steel bent at a point centra ly between its ends to provide body portions 6 and 7 spring jaws 8 and 9 and a head 10. The body portions 6 and 7 are located in the groove orbore 4, and the head 10 is located in the socket 5, the head 1() securing the clamp in the handle against accidental displacement. The jaws 8 and 9 project beyond the inner end of the handle. When the jaws are closed a semi-cylindrical lug 11,wh1ch is formed on the inner side of the jaw 8, engages in a seini-circular opening 12 inthe jaw 9,.and a countersunk circular opening 13 in the jaw 8 registers with a circular opening 14: in the jaw 9, the opening 14 having its wall screw-threaded.
The blade 3 consists Vof one -lialf of a double-edged safety razor blade, and therefore it comprises cutting edges 15 and 16 and isprovided with a circular opening 17 and a 'semi-circular recess 18. When inapplied position the blade is located between the jaws 8 and 9 and the lug l1 engages in the recess 18 and a bolt 19 passes through the openings in the jaws and blade. The bolt 19 passes through the openings 13 in the jaw 8 and has threaded engagement with `the Wall of the opening 14C in the jaw 9. rIhe lug 11 and the bolt 19 secure the blade in applied position against accidental movement relatively to the handlel and displacement.
It should be apparent from the above description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawing, that I provide means by which a worn out safety razor blade may be utilized as the cutting element of a ripping and trimming implement; that the cutting element may be readily and quickly secured to the holder; that the holder is simple, durable and eiicient, and that the holder may be manufactured and sold at a comparatively low cost.
Having thus described the invention, I claim as new, isz- 1. A. cutting and trimming implement comprising a handle provided with a bore terminating at one end in a socket and ogening at its other end out through one en of the handle, a clamp including a body 'portion and' a headand spring jaws having openings, the body portion being located in the bore and thev head in the socket, a lug on one of the jaws, a blade positioned between the jaws and having an opening registering with the openings therein and a recess receiving the lug, and a bolt, the bolt passing i thrpu'gh the openings in the awsand blade,
what
said bolt and the lug seeiiring the blade in applied position agalnst casual movement.
2. A cutting and trimming implement comprising a handle provided with a bore terminating at one end in a socket and opening at its other end out through one end of theY handle, a clamp constructed of a single length of spring steel bent to provide a body portion and a head and spring jaws, the jaws being provided with registerlng openings, the body portion being located in the bore and the head in the socket, a lug on one of the'jaws, a bla-de positioned between the jaws and having an opening registeringV with the openings in the jaws, said blade 15 being provided with a recess receiving the lug, and a bolt passing through the openin s l in one of the jaws and the blade and threa edly engaging the opening in the other jaw.
In testimony whereof I allix my signature 20 in presence of two witnesses.
J ENNIE BLANCHE WEIR.
