Description

affetti @with FRANKLIN FIELD, ot.1v TROY, N EW'fYoRK.
Laim Pam: No. 94,951, dated satema 21, 1869.
The Schedule referredvto in these Letters Patent and naking part of the same.
To all whom it may concern. l v
Be it known that I, FRANKLIN FIELD, of the city'of Troy, in the county of Rensselaer, and State of N ew York, have invented a newand useful Improvement in Neckties; 4and I hereby declare the following-to be a full, clear, and exact description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming a part of this specification, in which Figure l is a front view of my said invention as at' tached to a collar;
Figure 2 is a view, showiugthe manner in which one ofthe parts of the necktie is passed throngh'the other and i Figures 3 and 4 represent the separate parts of which my said necktie is composed.
My invention consists of a necktie, formed of two parts or ends, one of .which is provided with two 1ongitudinal slits or apertures, through which the other is passed, as hereinafter describedone of said parts or ends being then attached to one end of the collar.
Myimproved necktie may be lmade of paper, cloth,
, leather, or any other` suitable material, and may be' ornamentedwith stripes or :figures of any kind that may be desirable.
`I cut the two partsor ends of my said necktie s ub stantially in the shape shown in figs. 3 and 4, forming the pieces A and A'; In the Apiece A, I make thelongitudinal slits b b, of a length corresponding to the width of the narrow part of the piece A. I thenpass the narrow vor upper portion of the vpiece A through the slits b b, thus forming the complete necktie,.as shown in iig. 2. y
At the upper end of f the piece-A is the eyelet-hole d. A similar eyelet-hole is made in one end of the collar B, and the necktie is attached to the collar with an eyelet, as shown at d, fig. 2.V
I nd this mode of attaching the tie to the collar preferable, as it keeps thevtie in place better than any other method with which I am acquainted; but, of course, it maybe so attached with a button or pin, or
in any other manner thought desirable.
The tie being attached to only one endof the collar, it is far more convenient to put on' and' button the collar than where the neckbands are extended so as to imitate a tie, or where the separate; parts of the'tie are attached to said collar attachv end thereof.
In my improved tie, moreover, the two parts cannot curl up and separate from eachother during wear, asis often the case where the' ends of the t-ie merely overlap or cross each other. said partsy or ends through the other, as above described, I'producea good imitation of the knot in a common necktie, thus adding greatly to the appearance of the tie.
I do not claim a necktie composed of separate pieces, and so attached to each end of the collar that, when the collar is fastened to the shirt, they will cross or foverlap each other, as I am aware that this has been done before; but
What I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, isv As a new article of manufacture, a necktie, consisting'of two parts, A and A', joined together, as above described, and adaptedto be attached to one end of a collar, substantially as hereinbefore specified and set forth.
In witness whereof, I' have hereunto setmy hand,
. this 19th day of March, 1869.
