HOLDER FOB SMOOTHING-IRONS.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Feb. 8, 1910.
Application filed April 8, 1908. Serial No. 425,944.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, EsrELLA GERTRUDE PATTEN, a citizen of the United States of America, residing at Denver, in the county of Denver and State of Colorado, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Holders for Smoothing-Irons, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in holders for smoothing irons and its object resides in the provision of a device which by simple, readily adjusted means, may be detachably secured to ironing boards of different width and thickness, for the purpose of supporting a smoothing iron against displacement when the board is moved from its normal, horizontal position. I attain this object by the means shown in the accompanying drawings, in the various views of which like parts are similarly designated and 1n wh1ch Figure 1, represents a fragmentary plan view of an ironing board with my improved holder in its operative position and Fig. 2, a section taken along the line 22 Fig. 1.
Referring to the drawings, let the reference numeral. 2 designate the holder which, in practice, supports the smoothing iron and which consists of a preferably rectangular platform 2, provided with four downwardly projecting legs 2 upon which it is supported and with flanges 2 which extend upwardly along its ends and one of its sides.
The platform 2* may be formed with a plurality of preferably symmetrically arranged openings, for the purpose of reducing its weight and of preventing its retaining the heat communicated by the superimposed smoothing iron and it is furthermore, provided at its ends with oppositely disposed hook 3 to which the element by which it is secured upon the ironing board 5, is attached.
The above mentioned element consists of a strap or chain 4, which is attached at one of its ends to one of the hooks 3 and which may be fastened to the other hook at any one of a plurality of determinate distances from its free extremity.
In the construction shown in the drawings, the hooks 3 extend downwardly from the platform 2 and are inserted into two of the links of which the chain 4 is composed.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is 1. A holder for smoothing irons composed of a stand, fastening means at each end of the stand arranged in proximity to the base thereof, and a flexible member having one end secured to one of said fastening means and its opposite end secured to the opposite fastening means, said ends of said member being adjustable with respect to said fastening means and said stand being movable transversely or longitudinally of the ironing board.
2. A holder for smoothing irons composed of a stand, fastening means at each end of the stand, and a chain secured at its ends to said fastening means, said chain being adjustably secured to said fastening means whereby any one of the links may be engaged with either of the fastening means, the flexibility of said chain allowing said stand to be shifted transversely of the ironing board.
In testimony whereof I have affixed my signature in presence of two witnesses.
