UNITED STATES PATENT @FEIQE.
ANDREW J. TIC-E, OF SALEM, OHIO, ASSIGNOB TO THE AMERICAN CASE & REGISTER COMPANY, OF SALEM, OHIO, A CORPORATION OF OHIO.
FOLLOWER-PLATE AND HOLDER FOR FILES.
Application filed August 21, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, ANDREW J. TIoE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Salem, in the county 'of Columbiana and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Follower-Plates and Holders for Files; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawing, making a part of this specification, and to the figures of reference marked thereon, in which- Figure 1 is a transverse section of a drawer showing the follower in proper position with reference thereto. Fig. 2 is a perspective view of the follower from the rear. Fig. 3 is a view showing a portion of one of the retaining bars and its cushioned head.
The present invention has relation to followers for files and has specific reference to the device for holding the follower in fixed adjustment upon the bottom of the drawer and at any point within the limits of the movement of the follower.
Similar numerals of reference indicate corresponding parts in all. the figures of the drawing.
I11 the accompanying drawing, 1 represents the follower plate, which is formed of a length somewhat less than the width of the drawer 2. This plate 1 is provided with the angled support 3, which angled support rests upon the bottom of the drawer 2 in the usual manner. These parts within themselves form no specific part of the present invention, except that they must be present to carry out the purpose designed.
To the follower plate 1 is attached the spring 1 by means of the clip 5. The spring A is formed of spring wire, which is bent to form the extensions of what might be termed handles 6, from which handles extend the bars '7, which bars are slidably mounted in the clips 8. The outer ends of the bars 7 are provided with the angled portions 9, to which angled portions are connected the cushioned heads 10, which cushioned heads are preferably formed of rubber and are for the purpose of preventing the marl-ing. of the inner faces of the drawer '2 and at the Specification of Letters Patent.

same time producing a greater degree of frictional contact so that the follower plate will be more securely held at the desired point of adjustment. I
It will be understood that by the movement of the handles 6 toward each other by the thumb and finger of the hand the cushioned heads will be removed from contact with the inner faces of the drawer, after which the follower plate, together with the different parts carried thereby, can be easily moved within the drawer 2 and after the plate has been brought into proper adjustment the handles are released and the fol lower plate held with suflicient firmness to prevent the accidental displacement of the same.
For the purpose of providing a better brace for the plate 1 so as to more rigidly hold the same in its normal position the angled portions 9 are bent so that they will stand at an inclined angle to the plate as best illustrated in Fig. 2.
Having fully described my invention what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A follower plate for files consisting of a plate having an angled support and provided with a spring, said spring formed of spring wire and the wire extended from its spring portion, said extended wire consisting of handles, bars provided with angled ends, the bar portions slidably mounted in bearings, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
2. A follower plate for files consisting of a plate having an angled support and provided with a spring, said spring formed of spring wire and the wire extended from its spring portion, said extended wire consisting of handles, bars provided with angled. ends, the bar portions slidably mounted in bearings, and the angled portions provided with cushioned heads, substantially as and for the purpose specified.
I11 testimony that I claim the above, I have hereunto subscribed my name in the presence of two witnesses.
