IMPROVEMENT IN CLEVISES.

Specification forming part of Letters Patent No. 94,348, dated August 31, 1869.

To all whom zijn/ay concern,.-

Be it known that I, ZAoIIARIAI-I B. SIMs, of Bonham, in the county of Fannin and State of Texas, have invented a new and Improved Glevis, and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description ofthe same, sufficient to enable others skilled in the art to which my invention appertains to make and use the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, forming part of this specification, in which- Figure l is a side View, showing a partial longitudinal section of the line e z, Fig. 2. Fig. 2 is a top or plan View.

Similar letters of reference indicate corresponding parts in the several figures.

My invention is an adjustable clevis; and it consists of a hinged loop and an eyebolt, the former of which is jointed to the beam, and the latter screws into it, having the loop within Jthe eye, whereby the clevis may be readily raised or lowered, as desired.

In the drawings, A represents an ordinary plow-beam, in the forward end of which is embedded a tap or nut, a. B is a bolt which screws into the nut, and has an eye, C, Vformed at one end.

The clevis D consists of a U-shaped loop, which is jointed, as at b, in any proper manner, to the beam A. The arch or bend of the clevis is passed through the eye C of the bolt B, and is readily supported thereby, and not liable to disengage itself therefrom.

In order to raise or lower the clevis, the bolt 0r rod b is removed, thereby releasing the loop D. The bolt B is now screwed up or down, and when the proper length is obtained the loop is replaced and again jointed to the beam. The bolt B C may be introduced into the beam from its under side-that is to say, with its eye downward-and this may be desirable when the plow is to penetrate the earth but slightly.

XVhen the clevis is once adjusted, it retains its position, owing to its location in the eye of.

the bolt, and is always ready for attachment to the horses. I produce a simple and practical device.

Having thus described my invention, what I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

The clevis D and screw-eyebolt B, combined to operate together as described.
