Description
H. .0. SAUER. MOVABLE PICTURE MOUNT. APPLICATION rrnsn FEB. e, 1909.
Patented Dec. 7,
(Imam/toe HERBERT Osc/m SAL/ER 3513 m alto 01 wi/tmmwz IIITE $TAS HERBERT OSCAR SAUEB, OF NEW YORK, N. Y., ASSIGNOR 0F ONE-HALF TO WALTER A. P. DAVIS, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
MOVABLE-PICTURE MOUNT.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Dec. 7, 1909.
Application filed February 6, 1909. Serial No. 476,545.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, HERBERT OSCAR Sauna, a citizen of the United States, residing in the borough of Manhattan, city, county, and State of New York, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Movable- Pieture Mounts, of which the following is a specification.
The invention relates to such improvements; and consists of the novel construction and combination of parts hereinafter described and subsequently claimed.
Reference may be had to the accompanying drawings and the numerals of reference marked thereon, which form a part of this specification.
Similar numerals refer to similar parts in the several figures therein.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a plan view of my device in its normal shape. Fig. 2 is a similar view with its shape changed. Fig. 3 is a cross sectional view on the line 44; in Fig. 2.
The normal shape of the mount is preferably elliptical as shown in Fig. 1 and on one or both sides a picture or portrait is printed or drawn. When the mount is in its normal shape, the picture thereon has a certain appearance, but a light pressure on the edge surface causes the successive folds of material to move and the picture takes on another expression or attitude.
The friction between the successive folds of material is sufficient to keep the device in any position secured by the pressure upon the outside band and this position is re tained until other pressure is applied.
In the case of a dancer for example, various movements of the body and limbs occur and when the p cture represents a face. emo tional expressions can be obtained indicating amusement, sorrow, fear or \veariness.
My invention consists of a continuous strip of thin, flexible material 5, such as paperor tape, wound tightly upon itself, and having on the surface of the outside portion of the strip a flexible band of substantial material 7 preferably rubber, leather or bicycle tire tape. This flexible band is held rigidly to the outside portion of the strip by an adhesive, and serves to hold securely in place the successive windings of the strip 5, allowing at the same time suflicient play of the windings to secure the changes in the lines of the picture.
Refuse paper tape, such as has been used for stock ticker quotations, and which has been regarded as valueless may be used to advantage in constructing my invention.
It is obvious that a large variety of pictures may be printed or drawn on the fiat faces of the mount all of which can be distorted or altered to secure the changed effect.
What I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent is:
1. In a device of the character described,
the combination with a strip of tape wound tightly upon itself to form a pliable block, said block having opposite plane faces with pictures thereon, of a flexible band surrounding the roll and in close contact therewith.
2. In a device of the character described, the combination with a strip of tape wound tightly upon itself to form a pliable block adapted to have its contour and shape varied and to retain its altered shape; and having objects or pictures printed'or drawn on its faces and a yield ng band surrounding the roll and in close contact therewith.
In witness whereof, I have hereunto set my hand this 7th day of Jan, 1909.
HERBERT OSCAR SAUER.
Vitnesses:
ANTHONY F. ARCOME, AGNES L. CLUNE.
