CHARLES E. Amimftniv, or 'YoUNGsTowim oHIo.
PORTABLE. SUSPEDING DEVICE.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 9, 1909.
Application filed' April 30, 1909. Serial Np. 493,201.
To all 'whom t may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES F. REDMAN, a citizen of the United States, residing at Youngstown, in the county of Mahoning and State of Ohio, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Port-able Suspending Devices, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to that class of devices known as suspending hooks, particularlyI employed for suspending or hanging garments or other articles in closets or other places.
To this end the invention has in View a simple and practical article ofthis general character which may be termed a portable suspending device, inasmuchas the same is intended to be utilized vin connection with convenient supports, such a's a tent pole, tree, or other standard. Y I` A general object of the inventionis to provide a suspending device of the character indicated possessing special utility as a clothes hanger for camping purposes, although it will be understood that it is necessarily capable of general application as a simple and handy portable device which can be quickly and readily set up, and quite as readily taken down and compactly packed away in a small compass.
With these and other objects in view, which will be readily apparent, the invention consists in the novel construction, combination and arrangement of parts hereinafter described, illustrated and claimed.
Though susceptible to embodiment in different forms, and capable of use in a variety of ways, a preferred and practical embodiment of the invention is suggested in the drawing, wherein- Figure 1 is a perspective view of a portable suspending device embodying the present invention and shown in applied posit-ion upon a tree. Fig. 2 is a sectional view of the same. Fig. 3 is a detail in perspective of a preferred form of detachable hanger hook forming a part of the device.
Like references designate corresponding parts in the several-figures of the drawing.
The improved device forming the subjectmatter of this application essentially comprises an attaching member or band 1, and
a detachable hanger hook 2. The attaching member or band 1 preferably consists of a suitable length of flexible belt material, such as woven fabric or'leather, provided with a fastening device,A preferably a buckle 8,.
which permits of the band being readily fastened about a supporting standard. This standard may be any object to which the band l may be conveniently belted, such as a tree, tent pole, or the like.
It will be understood that any desired -a single length of wire of suitable gage bent to provide a main off-standing hook arm Ll, made up of the parallel members 5, 5, and at theouter end of the said hook arm the wire is doubled upon itself and deflected upwardly to provide the upturned terminal engaging bill 6. At the inner ends of the members 5 of the arm 4 the wire is bent upwardly and doubled to provide vertically arranged slide loops 7 which slidably engage over and receive the attaching band 1 to admit of shifting the hook to the desired position, and also admitting of being readily taken olf and placed on the band. The in ner extremities of the' wire body are projected rearwardly in substantially the longitudinal plane of the body to provide holding prongs 8 located below the loops 7 and adapted to engage the supporting standard to check slipping of the device when in its applied position.
1. A portable suspending device comprising an attaching band .and a hanger hook provided with slide loops receiving the band and holding prongs for engagement with a support. y
2. A portable suspending device comprising an attaching band and a hanger hook consisting of a length of wire bent to provide a main oifstanding hook arm, a pair of upstanding slide loops receiving the band, and rearwardly projected holding prongs located at the lower ends of the slide loops.
In testimony whereof I hereunto affix my signature in. the presence of two witnesses.
CHARLES F. REDMAN.
Witnesses:
LENA J. BUEHLER, S. L. CLARK.
