The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same To all lwhom it 'may concern.- Be it known that I, HOLLIS WOODWARD, of the city and county of Milwaukee, and State of Wisconsin,

have invented a new and useful Improvement in Sawing-lVIac-hines and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact ,description thereof, which will enable those skilled in the art to make and use the saine, reference being had to tliedacconipanying drawing thrilling part of this specification, in whichlignre lis a side vienr of my machine;

The object of my invention is to produce a machine for sawing wood which shall be easy to Work and convenient and economical in its management.

A is the frame of the machine.

B, the cog-wheel, to which the cranks applied.

I- I, frame which supports the saw, the. ends next to the fly-wheel connected to' posts, the other end, b etween the posts in the frame A, which is raised and lowered', as occasion may require, the end nextl the lily-wheel being stationary, held by a joint, and the other end being movable, rests on the saw, there being a slot in it, to guide the saw, and at the same time to press on the saw, to make it cut faster.

L, lever, with which to secure the wood to be sawed.

M, pins in the frame A, for lever L to fall into.

N, standard, connected to lever L, to hold the wood when being sawed. f

It, saw-guide. l f S, weight on the end of thesaw-frame, which can be carried out to the end of the frame, or drawn hack toward theY cross-head, so as. to give greater or less weight on the sau` Operation.

` Pnt-a stick of wood in between N and the ,fixed standards, then draw up with lever L till it is held fast,

then drop lever'L in betweentwo of the pins M, and it will be held securely. Then take hold of lever K, and drop'the saw on to the wood, and tui-n the crank 1, and the wood will be sawed.

What I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is-

A sawing-machine, consisting of the wheel D, slidegrooves E, cross-head F, saw H, saw-fraine`1, hung by its inner end, and provided with the movable weight S, constructed and arranged to operate as described.
