GRATE ATTACHMENT.
Specification of Letters Patent. 7
Patented (Ect. 19, 1909.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that we, J. M. WHITE and V. C. SANDERS, citizens of the United States, residing at Maben, in the county of Oktibbeha and State of Mississippi, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Grate Attachments; and we do declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
Our invention relatesto grate attachments and particularly to that type which are adapted to support sad irons for the purpose of heating the same.
The object of the invention is to provide a device of this character which may be applied to straight or curved front grates and which may be adjusted so as to get its supporting hooks out of the way of ornamental projections upon the grate.
With this and other objects in view, the invention consists of certain novel features of construction, combination and arrangements of parts, as will be more fully described and particularly pointed out in the appended claims.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view showing a device attached to a curved front grate and with a sad iron supported thereon in proper position; Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the deviceremoved and arranged to be applied to a straight front grate; Fig. 8 is a bottom plan view of the attachment arranged, showing in full lines, its arrangement for a curved front grate and, in dotted lines, for a straight front grate; and Fig. 4 is a transverse vertical section on the line 4-4 of Fig. 2.
In Fig. 1 of the drawings,*we have shown a curved front grate, l, to which the attachment is applied. This attachment comprises a pair of slightly curved base pieces, 2 and 3, each having arranged adjacent its outer ends the supporting hook, 4, and each member is provided with a railing or handle support, 5, which is rigidly connected to the base pieces, 2 and 3, by the opposite standards, 6. At the end of the railing connected to the section, 2, there is provided a flattened extension, 7, in which a longitudinal slot, 8, is formed, adapted to receive the guiding and clamping bolt, 9, carried by the extension, 10, of the railing, which is connected to the section, 3.
The section, 2, is provided at its inner end their bases seated upon the sections, 2 and 3,
and with their handles resting upon the railings, 5. As the device is adjustable longitudinally the sections may be moved up and down so as to position the hooks out of the way of any ornamental projections on the front of the grate.
From the foregoing description, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, the construction and operation of the invention will be readily understood without requiring a more extended explanation.
Various changes in the form, proportion and the minor details of construction may be resorted to without departing from the principle or sacrificing any of the advantages of this invention.
Having thus described our invention, what we claim is:
1. A device of the class described, comprising a pair of curved sad iron supporting sections, means adapting them for use on either straight or curved front grates, and a laterally off-set handle supporting means carried by the sections.
2. In combinationwith a pair of supporting hooks, a pair of base members connected thereto, supporting railings carried by said base members, and means for pivotally and adjustably connecting thebase members together.
3. In combination with a pair of supporting hooks, of base members carried thereby, means for pivoting said base members together, railings carried by *said base members, and means for pivoting the railings together.
4. In combination with a pair of supporting books, of base members carried thereby, means for pivotally connecting said base members together, opposite; railings carried by the base members, and means for pivotally and adjustably connecting the railings together.
5. In combination with a pair of supporting hooks, of a base member carried by each one of said hooks, means for pivotally and In testimony whereof we have hereunto achustably connecting the base members toset our hands 1n presence of two subscrlbing 1.0 gether, opposlte ralhngs carried upon the Witnesses.
