Jz'fa rz eys UNITED STATEES PATENT OFFICE.
JOHN D. PEDERSEN. F JACKSON. WYOHING.
GOMBINED FIRINGJEN Application filed October 21. 1908.
To all 'wfioiii it may concern:
Be it known that 1, JOHN D. Pnnniisizx, of tixed in Jackson. in the county of Uinta and State of Wyoming. have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Combined Firingand l do Pins and l ljectors for Firearms:
herehy declare that the following is a l'nll.
clear, and exactdescription thereof. which i will enable others skilled in the art. to which it appertains to make and use the same. ercnco being had to the accompanying drawings. and to the characters of referentimarked thereon. which form part of thi specification.
The object. of my present provid an improved combined and cartridge ejeetor for tire tli'lllh.
Figure 1 and partially in broken-out sect ion. whi h exposes the breech block and other operat inparts. the bodying the features of my present in\ ention. Fig. 2 shows in a similar manner the same parts with the hreech block in the open now tion. Fig. Cl is a horizontal sectional \irw of the Frame and block taken substantially on line .\--B of Fig. 2. with the lltt'tll block in open position. Fig. 4 is a similar sectional View with the breech block in par tially open position. Fig. 5 shows a front end elevation of the breech block.
Referring to the reference characters in a more particular description. 5 indicates the frame or receiver of the fire arm. which ina consist of two detachable parts. one attached to the stock and one to the barrel in a well known manner. Mounted for rtmiprocation in the chamber in the frame in the hreech block 6 having a recoil ehonlder 63 adapted to engage with the recoil shoulder .3" on the: top plate ofthe frame to enure the lllttl'lt block in closed position. The bloelt' is adapt ed to he operated by a litling aetion lllt' i arranged under the barrel l Moui'ited in a longitudinal rm breech block 6 in a sliding bar i ing the firing pin and cartrid \Vhen acting as a firing pin. the rear riol ol' 1 the rear end of the brcerh block t3 at its shoulder j elevated to bring the rceoil shoulders into the bar 10 is adapted to project beyond portion '10. where it is adapted to he sti-nrl: by the hammer 1l.- For moving; the combined firing pin and ejertor it] normally into its rearward position. there is provided a spring 12 arranged in a elotdilie recess in the body of the bar 10 and confined between Specification oi Letters Pa tent.
rel- I invention i to 1 tiring pin shows partially in side elevation frame portion of a tire arm tlil" the nitlidgle lwll e rnroly or th AND FJECTUR FOR FIREARMS.

the rear end of this sloo'like reces and a. 323 secured in the bOt of the hreeeh blot-k. At its, forward end the combined liriur pin and ejector ie provided with a tootlrlilic projection 10" having an inclined r ar Face. the game being arranged somewhat Ila-cl; from the forward end of the hat ll). 'ltt'lf ll) there is also provided theorojectioir Hi. In the side of the bar it) there is pro-- vided a ttlltrl ntttl I'IL'Efin l0 through whieh passes a pin l-l mounted in tlnbody of the breve-h hlorlt ,'\t the reai nd at one side against whieh the hamunr i: adapted to strike. the bar it is lll'tl- \ltiitl with a projeetio ill adapted. when the breech bloelt i in its t'ullynpen position. to strike against th shoulder I) on the rear portion oi the irame.
()u the opposite side oi the breech block ti from the torward end of the combined ejector and tiring pin it). is mounted the e.\' tractor lfi having 2! hook-lilo entl mlapted to engage the rim til :1 artridge slit-ll and o n't' air-Ii to its engaging position by" a spring lo hen not otherwise acted upon. the comliinetl tiring pin and ejcrtor will he moved to its normal rearward position with referinee to the breech block. as shown in Fig. 4- by operation oi the spring 112 In this position the tooth-like projection 10 is withdrawn into the forward end of the vslot which contains the bar 10. leaving the iroietitin r portion it)". however. projecting beyond the fare of the l reeeh block. At. the same time that the moth-like projection i 'l is withdrawn into the forward end oi the breech block. the inclined rear cam face thereof. acting against the breech block. serves to more the combined tiring pin and ejector at it forward end laterally outward from the ventral line. When in this position the projection it) on on side of the cartridge, head and the extrac r 15ml the otlirr id unngtand hold in"? oi tln -h lain-alt. filt lront v-lil'.- of the looilrh .0 promotion it) is the lllli'lltlu which acts on the eartridge head or rim when the device is serving ae a tiring out. and if. will he noted with reference to Fig. i that when the for Yard end of the breech block has been in ex iodin the cartritee. The tirin is all effected by releasing the hammer 11 in an obvious and well known manner and letting it strike the rear end of the firing pin on the shoulder 10*. The blow is transmitted by the bar to the cartridge. The first opening movement of the breech block necessarily is t to drop down the front end thereof, and the l arrangement is such that when so dropped 1 down the extractor to on one side and the forward end of the ejector on the other; side will take substantially diametrical positions on the head of the cartridge shell. As i the breech block is reciprocated lon itudinally toward its open position, the siell is withdrawn from thebarrel and carried by l the breech block until the breech block reaches substantially the limit of its opening movement. When the rear irojection 10 strikes the shoulder on the rame, the continued rearward movement of the breech block causes the forward end of the ejector 10 to be projected from the forward end of the breech block and it is given also a sidewise swing by the wall of the cam recess 10 engaging with the iixed pin 14. This movement, together with the holding etl'ect of the extractor 15 on the opposite side of the shell, causes the shell to be expelled laterally through the ejection opening at 17 in the side of the frame. The ejection is positive and certain, even thou h the opening movement of the breech bloc; is slow. In its opening j movement the breech block is arranged to 1 ride the hammer down into its cocked position in the usual manner.
It is evident that modifications and changes in and from the construction herein described may be made without departing by the claims.
What I claim as new y from the invention as intended to be covered L and desire to secure Letters Patent is:
1. A combined firin in and ejector mounted in the breech loc lt, having means 1 for producing a lateral throw to the car- 1 tridge engaging end, substantially as set forth.
2. A cartridgeejector consisting of a bar havin a. part adapted to engage the head of a s ell and a part adapted to engage the edge of the head and having a cam to throw laterally the cartrid e-engaging parts, a re ciprocating breech ock in which the ejector is mounted to move longitudinally and a fixture on the frame and engaging with the ejector, substantially as set forth.
3. A combination tiring pin and ejector mounted in the breech block, having means for producing a lateral throw to the cartridge engaging end, an extractor cooperating therewith and a hammer cooperating therewith, substantially as set. forth.
4. A combination tiring pin and jector,
having means for engaging the end of the cartrl e and the side of the cartridge,
means .or producing a lateral throw to the cartridge engaging end, and a han'nncr and an extractor cooperating therewith. substantially as set forth.
5. The combination in a firearm of a breech block, a combined firing pin and cartridge ejector consisting of a bar mounted in the breech block for longitudinal morement and having a part adapted to engage the edge of the head of the cartridge, and a tooth-like projection adapted to engage the head of the cartridge, a can) for throwing the cartridge engaging parts laterally as the bar is moved longitudinally, a hammer adapted to strike the bar and a fixed shoul der on the frame to engage and operate the bar, substantially as set forth.
In witness whereof, I have atlixcd my nature, in presence of two witnesses, this 10th day of October, 1908.
JOHN D. PEDERSEU.
