' UNITED STATES PATENT OFFICE.
WALTER S. ADAMS, OF PHILADELPHIA, 1PENNSYLVANIA,- ASSIGNOR TO THE 3'. G. BRILL COMPANY, OF- PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
BRAKE-HANGER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Oct. 5, 1909.
Application filed January 14, 1909. Serial No. 472,187.
To all whom it may concern:
Be'it known that I, WALTER S. ADAMS, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of the cit-y and county of Philadelphia and State of Pennsylvania, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Brake- Hangers, of which the following is a specification. The object of my invention is to provide a device of this class which will automatically compensate for allwear and tear and adjust This object is accomplished by my invention, some embodiments of which are described invention, reference is to be had to the accompanying drawings forming a part hereof, in which,
Figure 1 is a side elevation, partly in section, of one embodiment of my invention. Figs. 2 and 3 show modifications.
- Throughout the various views of the drawings, similar reference characters designate similar parts.
In the embodiment of my invention shown in Fig. 1, my improved hanger 1 is composed of two parallel and identical bars 2, each of which is'perforated near each end and the wall of the perforation, in each instance, is provided with a curvature which is that of a sphere, or substantially this, as shown at 3. The parallel bars 2 are each mounted on and fit suitable brackets 4 and 5 secured to the transom 6' and brake-arm 7, respectively, of a truck, in any suitable manner. Each of the brackets 4 and 5 is provided with-a bolt 8 'which. carries the usual the bars 2 will have a slight universal movement on the brackets and will always remain parallel and in proper relation. It is also obvious that if desired, the bars 8 may be made integral With the brackets.
In the structure shown in Fig. 2 the bracket 12 is not perforated and the arms 13 have suitable cups 1 1 to fit on the hemispherical ends 15 of said bracket and extend beyond the same and are perforated to receive a bolt 16 which is provided with a nut 17, washer 18 and a coil-spring 19. The tension of the bars 13 and the bracket 12 may be varied by tightening or loosening the nuts 17.
In the structure shown in Fig. 3, a further modification is made by placing the bolt 16 on the other side of the bracket 12, so that the arms 13 do not have to be extended beyond the cups 14.
While I have shown and described certain embodiments of my invention, it is not restricted thereto, but is broad enough to cover all structures that come within the scope of the annexed claims.
What I claim is:
1. In a device of the class described, a pair of brackets having'hemispherical projections, a pair of parallel arms having suitable perforations fitting on said projectlons and-means for holding said arms in place.
2. In a device of the class described a pair of brackets, each of which is provided with projections having spherical surfaces, a pair of parallel arms each of which is perforated at each end to fit on one of said surfaces and bolts with springs thereon press- WALTER S. ADAMS.
