SECTIONAL WIRE FENCE.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that we, GEORGE W. THnAsI-IER and WILLIAM TV. PAYNE, citizens of the United States, residing at Pratt Citv,

in the county of Jeiferson and State of Alabaina, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Sectional Wire Fence, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to fences and has special reference to that class of fences which erected easily and quickly and also for the purpose of admitting of the withdrawal or the insertion of separate sections when the same is desired.

The invention has for another Object the provision of a sectional fence in which the supporting pin is employed as a post for supporting the sections to thereby enable the positioning of the several sections at different angles without the necessity of moving the entire fence.

A still further Object of the invention is the provision of a fence of this character which is simple in construction, which may be erected readily and hence is an economical advantage not only to the manufacturers but also to the users.

Other objects and advantages will be apparent from the following description and it will be understood that changes in the specific structure shown and described may be made within the scope of the claims without departing from the spirit of the invention.

In the drawings forming a portion of this specification, and in which like numerals of reference indicate similar parts in the several views, Figure 1 is a side elevation of two sections of the fence and the securing post secured through the extremities of the same,

Fig. 2 is a top plan view of the same, Fig. 3 is a view of two sections of the fence having the post renoved therefrom so as to form a gate, Fig. 4 is a detailed and enlarged view of one of the fence sections.

Referring to the drawings, designates a length of wire which is bent into rectangular formation and which is provided at its opposite corners with loops 11 and which also carries loops 12 formed intermediately of the ends of the rectangular frame which are integrally formed upon the length of wire 10. \Vithin the rectangular frame formed of the Specification of Letters Patent. length of wire 10 a wire meshing 13 is positioned which comprises a plurality of longitudinally disposed strands 14 arranged in spaced relation and secured about the opposite edges of the frame which supports the vertically disposed strands 15 which are looped about the strands 14 at their intersection therewith and which are secured at their opposite eXtremities to the upper and lower bars of the frame. The strands 14 and 15 are preferably integrally formed as disclosed in the drawings and are secured at their opposite extremities about the length of wire 10 at the opposite ends of the frame. The fence is composed of a plurality of rectangular frames as above described and is held in position by means of posts 16. The posts 16 are formed preferably of heavy wire and are provided with pointed lower extremities 17 and a looped portion 18 at their upper eX- tremities for the purpose of engaging through the loops 11 formed at the opposite eXtremities of the fcnce sections for the purpose of pivotally holding the frame in position. The post 16 is made of such a length as to admit the lower eXtremity of the same to engage a distance in the ground in order to support the fcnce sections in a vertical position. In Fig. 3 is shown an arrangement of the fcnce sections in which one of the posts 16 is removed to admit of the swinging of the two adjoining sections to form a gate in the fence. It is thus seen that by this construction and arrangement the posts 16 may be removed at any point desired when it is necessary to pass through the fence or to admit cattle or the like through the same. By the employment of a device of this nature inclosures may be formed which may be made with sides at any desired angle according to the convenience or use to which the same is to be applied.

In erecting a fence from sections which are formed in this manner it is only necessary to position the extremities of the sections together allowing the loops 11 to overlap and to drive the posts 16 through the loops 11 thus securing the same rigidly in position and thereby holding the sections in pivotal engagement with one another. The posts 16 may be driven into the ground any desired depth in order to hold the fence rigidly in position.

What is claimed is 1. A fcnce of the class described, comprising a plurality of wire panel sections, the

frame of each of said Sections being forned K of a single length of Wire, said Wire being twisted to form a loop at each of the eorners of said Sections, and loops centrally formed at the opposite ends of said Sections, a Wire nesh secured to the frame, and Wire posts extended through the loops upon the adja cent extrenities of said sections.

In combination, 'a plurality of rectangular Wire panel Sections, the frame of each of said Sections being formed of a single length of Wire, said Wire being twisted to form a plurality of loops at the ends of said Sections, and having one of its ends passed through the loop forned. on the other end of said. Wire, a

meshing formed of a single length of Wire twisted around said frame, the Vertical strands of said meshing being obliquely disposed and looped around the horizontal strands thereof, and Wire posts having eyes formed at their upper ends extended through the loops on the adjacent extrenities of said sections. v
