Be it known that 1, ROBERT WOHLMEYER, a subject of the German Emperor, and resident of Vienna, Austria-Hungary, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Game Devices, of which the following is a specification.

This invention relates to a game-device which consists of a boomerang of certain construction and of a device for throwing the boomerang. The improved device can, according to its construction, be employed in the open air as well as in closed rooms and may be applied to recreation, shooting and sporting games, or the like, for children and adults. 1'

The invention enables the throwing of boomerangs in a predetermined way against certain aims or posts, which is also made possible by connecting the plate carrying the boomerang with a stand andv by providing this late with an abutment which prevents the oomerang from slipping ofi' when the position of the plate is not horizontal. The plate may be-connected with the stand by means of pivotal joints or the like and capable of being turned, shifted and fixed on a guiding rod of the stand. Such a device enables the sweeping with boomerangs of a very large plane, while for an exact adjustment graduated arcs or the like with respective marks may be provided. 1 I,

ang can be employed in the open air as; well as in closed rooms. The shape of the same is optional as long as the point of application of the throwing force, t. 6. its hitting point lies beyond its center of gravity.

When employing paper boomerangs, it is preferable to providethe hitting point of the same with a metal fitting 14 (Fig. 3) which prevents damage tothe paper. This fitting marks then also preferably the hitting point as by altering this point also the throwing movement would be altered. When using other material, for the boomerangs, this hitting point may be marked by a simple indentation or the like.

In the example shown in Figs. 1 and 2, the

boomerang is placed on the plate 1 which is provided with an abutment 2 and preferably made of material fit for polishing so as to have a smooth upper surface in order to possiblyreduce friction on the same. The plate is through the medium of the two pivotal joints 3 and 4 movable at an angle in two directions vertical to each other of the horizontal plane and capable by means of the screw 5 of being set to any desired height and turned in any desired direction on the guiding rod 6 of the stand 7. Instead of this, the plate may also be made to move in any desired direction through the medium of a universal joint or the like, while the plate may also be so supported as to be of fixed position in one or the other direction. To the underside of the plate 1, an arm 8 or the like is attached of which the lateral projection 9 is provided with a slot in which a blade spring 10 having a tension corresponding to the range desired for the boomerangs, is clamped in such a manner that it acts always in the direction of the plate. Of course, it is possible to replace the blade spring by means of a similarly acting spiral spring, or to arrange the spring at any other suitable point, or to provide the spring at its hitting point with a fitting 10 of indiarubber or the like to prevent damage to the boomerang.

' According to the position of the plate 1, the

boomerang thrown away by the spring 10, will fall down at a different point, so that it is with little practice easily possible to find for a certain aim the respective position of the plate. If the nature of the game requires that the boomerang falls always down at the same point, preferably a fixed correspondingly adjusted plate is to be employed and the necessary intensity of the hitting or throwing force is to be marked on a segment arranged beside the spring 10. It may be mentioned that the stand can for easy transport be made foldable. The abutment 2 enables one to adjust the supporting plate in different directions in that it prevents a slipping-off of the boomerang and also marks always the same point on which the boomerang is to be placed on the plate, for the purpose of increasing the hitting security of the device. This abutment may consist of one or several pins, or of an entire or partial projection of one plate member, or of any other suitable means.

In Fig. 3 a modified construction of the throwing device is shown in Which a separate adjusting arrangement for the plate is omitted. The plate carries a handle 11 to hold the device by hand and consists of a frame 12 011 which supporting ledges 13 or the like are provided. On these ledges the boomerang 14 is placed and prevented from slipping off by the abutment 2. This shape of' plate has the object to reduce the friction of the boomerang on the plate, which effect may be further increased by employing wires instead of the ledges 13.

The boomerang thrown away by the spring 10, has the property to fly in an are through the air and again to fly back and according tov the inclination of the plate to fall down to the right or left side of the same, while any alteration in the inclination of the plate results in an altered distance of the falling-down point from the flying-oif point. This action of the device may be applied to variousv recreation, shooting, or sporting games or the like, the range of the boomerangs being capable to be regulated by different tensions of spring, different weights of boomerang, and different positions of plate. Furthermore it is possible to connect the boomerang with fireworks and thus to use the same as a rocket. Finally, the boomerang may be employed for war purposes by filling the same with explosive matter and throwing it away with the aid of compressed air instead of the spring used therefor.

Having fully described my invention, what I claim and desire to secure by Letters Patent is A game device comprising in combination, a boomerang of flat material and of such a shape as to have its hitting point lying beyond its center of gravity and provided at its hitting point with a metal fitting constituting a mark for the l l,l3t6l,itl1 adjustal'xle supporting frame having a plate with smooth upper surface to receive said boomerang thereon and provided with an abutment for the l atter, an arm attached to the underside of said plate and having a lateral 1n'ojection with a slot, a blade sprii'ig fixed in said slot so as to act toward said plate and thus toward said boomerang thereon and provided at its hitting point with an indiaruhher fitting, all for the purpose set forth.
