Description

EMERSON.
DENTAL SILK RBGEPTACLE.
APPLIGATIDN 91mm PEB 2a 1908.
Faisn July 13, 19639.
HOMER EMERSON, OF MILTON, MASSACHUSETTS.
DENTAL-SILK RE CEPTACLE To all whom it may concern:
Beit known that I, Heinen EMERSON, citi- Zen of the United States, residing at Milton, in the county of Norfolk and State of Massachusetts7 have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Dental-Silk Receptacles, of which the following is a speciiication.
The present invention relates to improvements in caps of that type which are commonly employed as closures in connection with collapsible tubes and other receptacles, and has for its object to provide a cap embodying a novel construction whereby a compartment is formed for receiving a ball of dental floss or like material.
A further object of the invention is to design a cap of this character which is of simple and inexpensive construction and is peculiarly formed so as to completely house and protect the dental floss and at the same time admit of the same being readily drawn oill for use as required.
For a full description of the invention and the merits thereof and also to acquire a knowledge of the details of construction and the means for effecting the result, reference is te be had to the following' description and accompanying drawings, in which:
Figure l is a perspective view of a cap embodying the invention. Fig. 2 is a vertical sectional view through the same. Fig. 3 is a detail view of the cap, the parts being separated.
Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Broadly speaking the invention embodies a cap or closure such as are commonly employed in connection with collapsible tubes and like receptacles, the cap being formed with a chamber designed to receive a roll or ball of dental floss or like material, the free end of the floss passing through a perforation in the head of the cap so that the lloss can be readily withdrawn from the cap as required for use.
Referring to the drawing the numeral l designates the body portion of the cap which has a tubular formation and is closed at one end by a head 2. This head is in the nature Specification o1" Letters Patent.

of a disk provided with the central opening 3, the edges ofthe disk projecting beyond the body portion of the cap to form a laterally extending annular flange which admits of a iirm grip being obtained upon the cap when applying the same to a receptacle or removing it therefrom. The opposite end of the tubular body portion 1 is internally threaded as indicated at 4, the threads extending only partially through the tube and enabling the cap to be screwed upon the mouth of a collapsible tube or receptacle in the usual manner. A removable plug 5 is designed to occupy an intermediate portion of the tubular body portion l so that a chamber is formed between the said plug and the head 2, and in the preferred embodiment of the invention this plug engages the threads L1- and is provided with a slot G enabling it to be readily placed in position or removed therefrom by means of a screw-driver or like tool. The chamber formed in the cap between the plug 5 and the head 2 is designed to receive a roll 5 of dental floss or like material, the free end of the floss passing through the central opening 3 of the head to admit of the floss being drawn out of the cap as required for use. It will thus be apparent that the cap can be utilized in the usual manner as a elosure for collapsible tubes or receptacles and that it is so designed as to hold the roll of dental floss or similar material.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
l. A device of the character set forth for the purpose spcciiied, the same comprising a tubular body closed at one end by means of a disk and having an outer flange at the closed end to form a grip and having an opening in the disk for the passage of thread, the interior of the tubular body being threaded and a plug adapted to make screw thread connection with the interior threaded walls of the body to support a ball or quantity of thread and to expose a threaded 'portion of the body near the open end, as and for the purpose specified.
2. A device substantially as and for the purpose set forth, the same comprising a tubular body open at one end and closed at the opposite end by means of a disk and having an opening in the disk and an outer flange body at the open end exposed for the purpose at said closed end forming a grip and having set forth. 10 the inner wall of the opening screw threaded In testimony whereof I aHiX my signature to within a short distance ofthe closed end of in presence of two witnesses.
