Description
JULES A, CHE'RoN, or NEWI-Y'ORQNA. Y.
Letters Patent N 927,584, dated .T uly 13, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN PORTABLE PUMPS.
The ,Schedule referred to these Letters Patent and making part of t'bo same.
Llo cllwhom it may concern Be it known that I, JULES A. Cannon, of the city and State of New York, have invented and made a new and useful Improvement in Portable lPumps and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the said invention, reference bein g had to the'annexed drawing, making part of this specification, wherein I have 'represented a vertical section of my said pump.' I
This portable pump lis adapted to use as a gardenengine, for washing windows or for extinguishing tires.
My invention relates -to the combination and ar-A rangement of pipes and valves within anA air-vessel,
for drawing and forcing water by a piston and lever, in connect-ion with a tankmounted on wheels, the
parts being constructed so that tbe. water can be drawn from' a cistern or well, to fill the tank, andthen the water can be drawn out ofthe tank, and ejected by a hose and nozzle, the wheels on which the tank and pump are mounted allowing of the water being taken ii'om near thewell or'cistern to the place at which it is to be used.
In the drawinga a are the hind wheels,
b the front wheel or wheels, and
c, the pole or tongue, by meansof which the pump may be drawn from place to place. y
l is a reservoir or tank, of any suitable size, with an opening, at c. Y
f is the suction-pipe, opening vinto the chamber g,
` below the pump 71..
iis the inlet-'valve to the bottom of the pump-7a,
'and
kisthe outlet-valve, that allows water to pass into the air-vessel l,-that contains the pump.
the chamber g, where it is provided with the induction-valve n; and
. o is the eduction-valve into the air-chamber l.
p is the piston of the pump, and
a lever, attached by the fulcruin 3, and'jointed 'l to the rod of the pump-piston. r is'the pipe to which the hose or nozzle sis at# tached.
'The air-vessel l basa movable cover, 1'., so that the parts of the pump and Vvalves are easily accessible.
rJhe suction-pipe f, with an ordinary strainer, is in` serted into the well or cistern, and the nozzle s intro- -duced through the opening c, so as to draw the properquantity of ivatelg'fand deliver it into`the tank d.
The pump yis tobe taken to the place where it is to be used, and the nozzle s taken out of c, and the suction-pipe finserted, and the water drawn from the tank, and ejected through Athe nozzle s, for watering a l garden, or for anyother use.
My apparatus is stron g, portable, reliable, and always ready for use. The pump is donbleactng, and there is no risk ot becomes necessary. v
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
The pump h and pipe m, Within the air-vessel l, and fitted with thevalves i 7c n o, as specified, in combination with the suction-pipe f, delivery-pipe s, and tank d, with the opening e, the apparatus being set on wheels, so as lto be portable, as set forth.
' In witness whereof, I have hereunto set-my signa` ture, this 16th day of April, 1869.
JULES A. CHERON. Witnesses:
