Connected to the sliding member of the legs B2 and B2, and similarly to the connection of the braces C1 and C5 with the sliding member D2, are the operating levers C and C7, which at their inner terminals are pivo ted to the legs B1 and B4, in common with the corresponding terminals of the operating levers C* and C2, and to the sliding member D2, at e1 and e5.
To the legs B and B2 are pivotally connected the terminals of the braces C and C1 respectively, and the opposite terminals thereof are pivotally connected to the end framing a1 of the section A. The pivotal connections with said legs are effected by the hinges d3 and d* secured respectively to each leg and connecting brace, and the pivotal connection of the braces with the end frame 0,1 is effected through the hinges d2 and di respectively, which are securely fastened to this member'. These braces are duplicated at the opposite extremity of the table, where they are carried in pivotal connection with their respective legs B2 and B5, and are designated respectively as C3 and C2 and the pivotal or hinge connection with the framing a? as (ZS and d,
Each of the terminal legs B and B and B2 and B5 are provided with bearing studs Cr (see Fig. 5), which have at one terminal a bearing head G1. These studs pass through perforations in their respective legs, in which perforations they bear in pivotal relation and are driven tightly into the terminals of the respective sliding members D2 and D2. T he heads G1 of these studs during the operation of the table, play in longitudinal grooves or slots as indicated at g5, in their respective side bars a, a2, a* and. a, and toward the outer terminals thereof and adjacent to the under surface of the two sections A and A1 of the table, while the sliding members D2 and D3 carrying the terminal legs of the table, to which they are swung by the studs G, play to and fro under the guide clips d1 andd respectively. i
The operation of my improved table, assuming the same to be in an open position as illustrated in Figs. 1 and 2, is effected by turning the table top down upon the 'floor with the legs uppermost, or upon its side and folding the two sections A and A1 toward each other. To facilitate the description of the operation, let it be assumed that the table is turned with its face down and the folding is proceeded with by swinging the section A1 toward the section A, the effect will be when the section A1 is swung upon the hinges 1f and F1, to slidingly force the upper terminals of the legs B2 and B5 together with the sliding member D2 to which they are pivoted, against the thrustl of the braces C and C7, and the counter thrust of the pivotedA braces C2 and C3 to take a position toward the end frame a5, while at the same time the opposite extremities of the legs B2 and B'L3 will be swung in a reverse direction, until the section A1 assumes a position at right angles to the section A, whereupon the legs B2 and B5 will be folded within the confines of the side bars a1 and a, until further movement of these legs is arrested by impinging against the under side of the surface of the section A1 and against the outer surface at the terminals of the legs B1 and B1, whereupon the motion being continued and the folding proceeded with, the legs B1 and BL1 will force the arms C1 and C5 to similarly throw the terminals of the legs B and B3 toward the fraining A1, until these legs will be thrown in a similar manner to that of the legs B2 and B5, into a position within the confines of the side bars a and a2, and the table will assume the form illustrated in 1iT igs. 2 and A, and in appearance resemble a shallow bex.

Having thus described my invention, claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent:
i. A folding table comprising a plurality of sections hinged together, said table being provided on its under surface with strips eX- tending around the same and forming a framing, a sliding member arranged transversely of the table at each end thereof, pairs of legs pivote/d to the ends of each sliding member, each pivot having a head on its outer' end, and the strips being provided with grooves in which the heads move, a brace pivoted to each leg below its pivot on the sliding` member, and to the adjacent end of the table, a pair of legs hinged at the junction of the sections, stop blocks secured to the under surface of the table in position for engagement by the sliding members, when the table is in erect position, and levers each having one end connected with the respective end of a sliding member', and its other end pivoted to the central pair of legs.
2. A table comprising a plurality of sections hinged together, a pair of legs at the junction of the sections and hinged to said table secticns, a pair of legs at each end of the table, sliding members movable on the under face of each section, stop blocks on the under surface of each section for engagement by the sliding members when the table is in erect position, and operating levers connecting the ends of the sliding members with cent member of the central pair of legs, bearing studs pivotally connecting each pair of the adj aend legs with the adjacent sliding member, said studs having bearing heads, and said table sections having grooves in which the heads move for the purpose set forth the latter legs and the sliding supports, and braces pivoted to the sections at their outer ends and to the adjacent legs.
