Specification of Letters Patent.
Application' tiled Iuly'22, 1901i".A Hertel Nmm',
raten-teau 1e, ieee@ To-all whom 'it 'ma/y concern:
' Be it" known that I, JOHN 'TL-McLennan,
. citizen oi the vDominion of Canada, residing at Vancouver, in the Province of British Co- 5 lumbia, Canada, have inventada new and useful which the ollowing is a speoiiication;y
This invention relates to a sii ar holding receptacle for table use, and 'is des' ed to provide a sugar containing receptac e from which dust and iiies may be excluded and having provision for the mechanical delivery of a measured quantity of its contents. The invention is artieularly described in the following spec cation, reference being made to the drawing by whichity is accom panjed, in which: 4
Figure 1 is a vertical section through the lower part o1 ithe showing my improve delivery means land `F' 2, a similar view on the lineA A in Iiig. 1.
n ythese drawings 2 represents the lower part of a su ar holding receptacle-of lconvement elze or table use, which 'receptacle may be provided with a fastened lid or'oover.
From the bottom of this receptacle a passage' 3 delivers into a rectangular valve 4 which is endwise slidahle within a corres ondingly Ishaped chamber 5 which may be ormed in 4.30 the stem or support of the sugar vessel. The
valve 4 is provided in its upper side with an aperture 6 corresponding to aperture 3 in the sugar `receptacle. The aperture 6 is Vtoward one end and the valve should'be oi such length that the blankportion 7- will overlap `the aperture 3 and eiectually close it when the valve at the-,other extreme oi its en dwise movement.
Through the bottom of the valve 4' at the oh, when the -valve 4 is m position to close the aperture-3 bythe blank 7, uncovers a passage 9 1n the bottom of the valve chamber 5, 5 which a erture 9 is vertically u n'der aper- 4 a erture 8 is closed, bein `op csite'tol the b ank 10 in the4 bottom of t e va ve chamber, and the passage 6 registers with the aperture 3 of the sugar receptacle and the sugar is free to flow from the receptaeie 2' into the valve 4, but when the valve 4 is at the other extreme of its movement the passage 3 'is Im rovement in Sugar -Bowls, oi
suar holding receptacle with sai opposite end to 6 is a discharge aperture 8. w
, register with le 'su'galweontaigl ture 3 in t e top: so that when the valve 4'is laperture andthe other'witl the-out et a er' 'at one extreme of its movement its bottoml Vtending to' move said hollow valvein one and be delivered through a chute or spout I5 prjectin' toward one side of the vessel. he va ve 4 is provided with a baille 4x to direct the contents of the valve toward the aperture 8--at all times, see F 1.
The valve 4 may be inserte into the valve chamber 5 through "the front and the front end be closable thereafter by a cover 14 havingdovetailed edges toengage corresponding 66 lgrooves inthe front opening of the va chamber, the cover being secured in place by .a stem 12 which may be threaded-into the end of the valve.
A spring 11 at the back oi the valve 4 retains that valve nrmalliyly in the position in which vit will receive ac arge of sugar from the rece tacle 2 and the stem 12 is rovided with a nger engagement 13'.by'w ich the. valve may be pressed to the forward lax-,- treme of its movement and to deliver its charge through the passage 9 and chute 15.
The valve 'chamber ma be integral Ywith the sugar holdin recepta e 2i in the stem or support of whic it may-be formed.4 The sugar holding receptacle may be of glass or porcelain. A
Having now particularly described my in'- vention' and the'manner of its operation, I hereby declare that WhatI claim as new and desire to' be protected in by Letters Patent,is: 4-
