Description

To whom it may concern tnitdv (rmer R. H. sPRING'sTED, or VANDAL'IA, MICHIGAN.
Letters Patent No. 92,119, dated .Tune 29, 1869..
nvxpuovnn sTovE-PIPE SHELF.
The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and Making pars 'of the same.
Beit known that-I, R. H. SPRINGSTEED, of Van dalia, in the county of Cass, and State of Michigan, lhave invented a new and useful Improvement in Stove- Pipe Shelf; and I do declare that the following is a' true and accurate description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters ofreference marked thereon, and being a part of .this specification. l y' The drawings represent lmy invention in two dilerent positions- Figure l being a plan view ofthe top with the sections separated, and y Figure 2 being a similar view, with the sections together, clasping a section of stove-pipe. Like letters indicate like parts inI each figure.
The nature-'of myinveption relates to an improved construct-ion of :1J-shelf designed to be secured around a stove-pipe, for the-'purpose of keeping such articles as may be placed upon -said shelf warm, without the danger of burning, as isfre-quently the case when Athe articles are placed upon the top, or in theoven of the stove.
The invention consists ina grated shelf for the purpose, made in two equal sections, and provided .with a corrugated collar, and such fastenings as will hold the same firmly together and in position, and, at the same time, allow the shelf tobe iitted to a variety of sizes of stovefpipe.
A A, in the drawings, represent the two sections of a stove-shelf, the inner rims of w'hich are corrugated,
as shown at a a,'for. the purpose of indenting the stovefpi'pe, and thereby grasping it more firmly.
Each one of these sections is provided with a slotted ear, b b, and al corresponding curved brace, c c,
which passes through and interlocks with the slottedy ear, in such a manner that the outerendf each of the braces c c passes under and sustains the edge of the vopposite section. f i
Secured toeach section isalso a toothed bar, B,tbe
teeth of which areupon the under side thereof, and
not shown inthe drawings.
`The top ofthe opposite bar of the sections is charnfered oif, as at e e, to present a sharpened edge toengage with the-toothed bars.
C represents a horizontal section of a stove-pipe. -The-stove-ppe being in a vertical position, lits the sections around it, interlocking the brace c land slotted ear b, and engaging the toothedV bar with the sharpened edge e, upon one side of the pipe. -Theseintcrlock the brace and slotted ear upon the other side of p the pipe, and press the two sections together until the corrugations c a, indent the pipe slightly, and then engage the toothed. bar and sharpened edge upon the same side together, and the shelf' will be firmly secured to the pipe, and ready for use.
Its adaptations to various sizes ot' pipe will readily bepseen, by'means ofthe toothed bars. l
WVhat I claimfas my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is;- i
"lhe' combination of the corrugated stove-pipe collar, the toothed bars B, and the sharpened edges ec, with the slotted ears b b, and curved braces c c, in. connection with the sectional shelf A A, as-and'for the purpose before mentioned.
' R. 'IL SPRINGSTEED.
