Description

.i nms GUNN, OF PHILADELPHIA, PENNSYLVANIA.
FUEL.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented May 4:, 1909.
Application filed December 11, 1908. Serial No. 467,007.
To all whom it "my concern. l
lle it known that 1, JAMES GL'NN, a subject i of the l Iin; ol' (ircat Britain, residing at; Philadelphia, in the county of Philadelphia I and State of lennsvlvania, have invented a certain new and useful lmprorenn-nt in Fuel. of which the Following is a specihcation.
.\l invention relates to a new and useful improvement in fuel, and has for its object to 1 protidc an cxccedingly simple and ellcctixe t de\ ice of this character whcrchy the uaste ol' 1 anthracite or hit umiuous coal may he used in 3 place of coal that is usually employed in kitchen ranges, stmes, heaters and the like, and to this end it ('ontcniplatcs the production oi hriq'uc-ts hy molding the waste material and lixing' it with a hindin; medium which produces a tirm product that will not disintegrate from handling or moisture.
With these ends in View. this invention consists in the details of construction and comhinat ion ol' elements hereinal'tcr set forth and then specifically designated by the i claim.
In order that those skilled in the-art to which this invention appertains may understand how to make and use the same, i will describe its construction in detail.
.'\l improve-d l'uel consists essentiallv of either anthracite or bituminous coal dust or 1 line coal cemented together with a mixture ol' common clay and tar water, which will 5 hind the particles of coal together so that it will stand handling and which will not cruint hle to powder when ignited. i
therewith and then pressed into brick or ball form and allowed to dry, the drying process taking about six hours at which time the hriquets may he used and it is found that they give oil a great amount of heat, last longer than. coal and will burn to a powder.
'l'he hall form burns freely for cooking purt poses or heat, while the brick form may be used for hlanlteting or for keeping the tire in over night.
llaving thus fully described my invention, what 1 claim as new and useful, is--- 'l he herein descrihed process ol forming a fuel composition consistmg in saturating one part of common clay with tar water l'ormed llonEn'r ll. l. Knanvonn.
