To all whom 'it may concern:

Be it known that I, DANTE S. Oon'riss, a citizen of the United States, and a resident of Seattle, in the county of King and State of Washington, have invented a new and Imroved Chair Attachment, of which the folowing is a full, clear, andexact description.

The invention relates to furniture, and its object is to provide a new and improved rocking attachment and foot rest for use on ordinary chairs and rocking chairs, and arranged to ermit the user to conveniently tilt the chair ack to a desired position, thus insuring comfort to the occupant of the chair.

The invention consists of novel features and parts and combinations of the same, which will be more fully described hereinafter and then ointed out in the claims.

A practica embodiment of the invention is represented in the accompanying drawings forming a part of this speclfication, in which similar characters of reference indicate corre-f sponding parts in all the views.

Figure 1 is a perspective view of the improvement as applied to a rocking chair; ig. 2 is a sectional side elevation of the same; Fig. 3 is an enlarged cross section of one of the pivot clips as applied to a runner of the rocking chair, and Fig. 4 is a perspective view of art of the attachment.

To the roc ers A of the rocking chair B are secured the transversely-extending clips C by the use of set screws D, screwing in the inner ends of the clips 0 against a block E of wood or othermaterial resting against the innerface of the corresponding rockerA. The set screws D of the two clips C form pivots for the arms F of an auxiliary rocker to swing on, the said arms F being rovided at their rear ends with eyes F loose y engaging the set screws D,

between the inner ends of-the clips and the blocks E, as plainly indicated in Fig. 3. The outer ends of the arms F of the rocker are connected with each other by a cross bar F forming a foot rest for the feet of the occupant of the chair. Springs H connect the arms F of the auxiliary rocker with the forward legs 13 of the rocking chair B, so as to normally hold the auxiliary rocker in an upward or a folded position.

An extension foot rest G is provided with side arms Gr formed at their rear ends into coils G: through which extends the cross bar F, to allow the extension foot rest G toswing on the cross bar F forming the main foot rest. The coils G terminate in arms Gr resting against stop pins F secured to the rocker arms F,'so asto hold the extension foot rest G in proper position forward of the main foot rest, as will be readily understood by reference to the drawings. Now when the device is attached to the chair as shown and described, and the o erator laces his feet on the cross bar F an bears own on the same, then the rocker arms F resting on the floor cause a backward tilting of the rocking chair B on its rockers A until the desired position is reached. The feet of the occupant of the chair in bearing down on the cross bar F finally bring the toes in contact with the extension foot rest G, so that the legs of the occupant come to perfect repose, to increase the comfort of the occupant of the chair.

' Although I have shown and described the device as applied to a rocking chair, it is evident that same may be attached to an ordinary chair, dining room chair and the like, to tilt the chair backward to a desired angle and to provide a'convenient foot rest for the oc cupants feet.

The chair attachment is very simple and durable in construction, can be readily applied to the chair or removed therefrom whenever it is desired to do so.

Having thus described my invention, I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent a 1. A chair attachment comprising transverse pivots for attachment to the chair, and a pair of rockers connected with each other at their forward ends by a cross bar forming a foot rest, the rockers being fulcrumed at their rear ends on the said pivots and contacting with the floor in advance of the pivots.

2. A rocking attachment for chairs comprising a pair of rockers connected together at their forward ends by a cross bar forming a foot rest, means for pivotally connecting the rear ends of the rockers with a chair, whereby they may contact with the floor in advance of their pivots, and an extension the pivots, and an extension foot rest having eyes engaging the said cross bar and arms engaging stop pins on the said rockers.

A chair attachment comprising a pair of pivot clamps having set screws for attaching the clamps to the chair, rocker arms rigidly connected with each other at their forward ends by a crossbar forming a foot rest, the rear ends of the said rocker arms terminating in eyes loosely engaging the said set screws for the rocker arms to swing on.
