Description

` H. B. MORSE. DRAWER SUPPORT.
` APPLICATION FILED JUNE 20, 1908. 917,885. Patented, Apr. 13, 1909.
l VIVE ,JT v1:1 gn/.97 7?. mi Z7 Wfl-Wawy f A M, ...EL .l MMI. m m-- JEEEEE- WIT C j wfm,
nnrrnn ef@ HARVEY B. MORSE, OF PORTLAND, MAINE, ASSIGNOR TO MORSE MANUFACTURING COM- PANY, OF PORTLAND, MAINE, A CORPORATION OF MAINE.
DRAWER-SUPFORT.
To all whom it may' concern:
Be it known that I, HARVEY B. MORSE, a citizen of the United States, and resident of Portland, in the county oi' Cumberland and State of Maine, have invented new and useful Improvements in Drawer-Supports, of which the following is a speciiication.
'Ihis invention relates to improvements in drawers.
It is designed for use in furniture, wall cases, etc.
It is designed to provide a drawer which can be readily removed entirely from the case or which can be drawn out a greater or less distance 'from the case and remain suspended.
It is also designed to provide means whereby the drawer can be moved readily out and in and to so hang it that when pushed in it will be automatically cushioned or retarded to prevent shock or jar when it is pushed away in.
In the drawings herewith accompanying and making art of this application, Figure l is a side e evation of a two drawer case showing my drawer and its mounting therein, a portion of the side of the casing being removed, one drawer being shown withdrawn; and Fig. 2 is a transverse vertical sectional view on line -:c oi' Fig. l.
Same letters or' reference refer to like parts.
In said drawing A is a suitable casing having a track B alixed thereto on either side of the drawer space. The drawer supporting device on either side consists of a double slide C-C supported upon track B by means oi' hangers D-E attached to the sides of the slides. Hanger D has an anti- 'lriction roll F, shown in" dotted lines Fig. l, ada ted to travel against the lower edge ot trac B, and hanger E has an anti-friction roll G adapted to travel against the lower edge of the part C. Suspended from the part C by means of hangers I and J is another slide I-I, the han er I being provided with an anti-friction rol K running against the lower edge ol' the part C vand an antifriction roll J ruiming against the under edge of the slide II. The inner and outer ends of slide II are connected by stirrups M which extend across the space occu ied by the drawer, see Fig. 2, and upon t ese stirrups the drawer N is loosely supported, the lower Patented April 13, 1909.
1908. Serial N0. 439,506.
l edges olif the drawer being provided with recesses C to give entrance to the stirrups. This construction admits oi' the drawer being lifted entirely 'from the stirrups whenever desired but serves to removably lock the drawer to the stirrups. Pulling out the drawer pulls out the slides also. The track B is provided with a stop P which limits the outward movement ol the double slide C-C and a stop Q. on the part C limits the outward movement of the slide II. It will be noted that when the drawer is withdrawn until the hanger I cornes in contact with stop Q, the slide C-C does not move on track B but when slide I-I is checked by the stop Q l the slide C-C moves on track B until hanger B cornes in contact with stop P which is the outward limit of the drawer. I.Then the drawer is being pushed in at iirst all the parts travel on the anti-friction rolls but when about halll way in the center oll gravity of the parts changes, the inner end of the double slide C'C and the slide II Jtend to drop so that hangers D and I slide on the upper edges of track i3 and part C res ectively, the :friction arising therefrom ten(` ing to retard the drawer and prevent shock. The drawer is provided on either side with a lateral -projection forming a guide `for the drawer and a space S between the drawer and casing i'or the track and drawer supporting slides.
Having thus described my invention and its use I clairnr- 1. In a drawer support, the combination with a drawer casing having tracks affixed thereto at opposite sides of the drawer space, of a double slide suspended from each of said tracks and movable thereon, a single slide suspended from each of the lower members of said double slides and movable thereon, the` ends of said single slides being provided with stirrups, and a drawer supported in said stirr'ups.
2. In a drawer support, the combination with a drawer casing having tracks arrIiXed thereto at opposite sides of the drawer, oi" a double slide suspended from each of said tracks and movable thereon, a single slide suspended from each of the lower members of said double slides and movable thereon, the ends of said lower slides being provided with stirrups, and a drawer removably supported in said stirrups.
3. In a draweiI support, the combination with a drawer casing having tracks ailixed thereto at opposite sides of the drawer, of a double slide suspended from each oic said tracks and movable thereon, a single slide suspended from each of the lower members of said double slides and movable thereon, the ends of said single slides being provided with stirrups, and a drawer having recesses in the bottom to give entrance to said stirrups.
4. The combination with a drawer casing having tracks affixed thereto at opposite sides of the drawer space, of a drawer support comprising a double slide suspended from and movable upon each oi said tracks and a single slide suspended from and movable upon the lower member of each of said double slides, the inner and outer ends of the i single slides being connected by drawer supe porting stirrups extending across the drawer' space, means for limiting the outward movement of the slides, and a drawer supported in said stirrups.
5. The combination with a drawer casing having tracks afixed thereto at opposite sides of the drawer space, of a drawer supn port comprising a double slide suspended trom and movable upon each of said tracks and a single slide suspended from and ln testimony whereof, l have signed myV name to this specification in the presence of 45 two subscribing witnesses this 11th day of June, 1908.
