Specification of Letters Patent.

To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN M. PATTERSON, a
citizen of the United States, residing at La Fayette,in the county of Walker and State of Georgia, have invented a new and useful Door-Stop, of which the following is a specification.
This invention relates to door stops and has for its object to provide a comparatively simple and inex ensive device of this character especially esigned for attachment to a floor or other suitable support for holding the door in open or partially open position.
a A further object of the invention is to provide a door stop including a sup orting frame having a spring catch secure thereto and arranged in the path of movement of the door for engagement with the lower edge thereof thereby to prevent accidental swinging movement of the door.
A further object is to rovide means for adjusting the pivoted en of the catch ver tically of the supporting frame, and means for receiving the impact of the door when the latter is swung on its pivotal axis in engagement with said catch.
A still further object of the invention is generally to improve this class of devices so as to increase their utility, durability and efficiency as well as to reduce the cost of manufacture.
Further objects and advantages will ap pear in the following description, it being understood that various changes in form, proportions and minor-details of construction may be resorted to within the scope of the ap ended claims.

The improved door stop forming the subject matter ofthe present invention is principally designed for, use in connection with doors and similar closures and byway of illustration is shown in connection with a swin ing door of the ordinary construction in whic 5 .designates the door and 6 the floor or other suitable support.
The device consists of a su porting frame preferably stam ed or otherwise formed from a single metalhc blank of the construction shown in Fig. 4 of the drawings, said blank being provided with a reduced extension constituting a base 7 and op osit'ely disposed wings adapted to be folded laterally on the lines 8 to produce the side walls 9 of the supporting frame.
One end of each wing of the blank is folded inwardly on the line 10 to form vertically disposed strengthening lips 11, while the op osite endof each wing is bent on the folded ines 12 to produce flanges 13, there being longitudinal slits l4 formed in the metallic blank at the juncture of the extension and side wings thereof to permit the latter, to be readily folded into the desired sha e.
Suitable strips of rubber or ot or yieldable material 15 are seated in the flanges 13 to receive the impact of the door 5 when the latter is swung laterally in engagement with the door step.

opposite end thereof is bent upon itself and extended longitudinally in the direction of the pin 17 to ble catch or looking finger 19, the terminal of which is bent downwardly to produce a depending stop lip 20 adapted to bear against the adjacent face of the door and prevent accidental swin ing movement of the latter. While the device is principally designed for attachment to a floor it is obvious that the same may be secured to a wall or other suitable support and em loyed as a means for lockin window blin s, swinging sashes and the llke without departing from the spirit of the invention.
- It will alsobe understood that the door stops may be made of different sizes and shapes and the latter nickeled, japanned or otherwise coated to give the same a neat attractive ap earance.

1. A door stop including a supporting frame, a spring pressed locking. member carried by the frame and adapted to engage the door for holding the latter in open or partially open position, and means for adjusting both ends of the locking member vertically of the frame.
2. A door stop including a supporting frame, a spring pressed locking member carried by the frame for engagement with the .door, means for adjusting both ends of the member vertically of the frame, and
locking a buffer disposed in spaced relation to the active end of said lockmg member.
3. A door stop including a supporting frame, a locking member pivotally mounted on the frame for engagement with the door, and an adjusting screw carried by the frame and havin its head arranged to bear against the lower ace of the lockmg member at the free end thereof for adjusting said locking member vertically of said frame. 4. A door stop including a supporting frame having oppositely disposed side walls, a spring resse lockin member ivotally mounted etween the si e walls an adapted to engage the door, buffers secured to the side walls, and means carried by the frame and disposed beneath the free end of the locking member for effecting the vertical adjustment thereof.
5. A door stop including a supporting frame having oplpositely dis osed side walls, -;a locking mem tween the side walls and provided with a spring pressed locking finger, buffers secured er pivota y mounted beto the side walls and spaced from the adjacent end of the locking linger, and means carried by the frame and bearing against the free end of the locking member for effecting the-Vertical adjustment thereof.
6. A door stop including a supporting frame having oppositely disposed side walls provided with guide flanges, buffers seated etween the flanges, a pin piercing the side walls, a spring actuating ocking member .mounted on the pin and provided with an overhanging lockmg finger for engagement with a door, and an adjusting screw carried by the frame and adapted to bear against the locking member for effecting the vertical adjustment of the latter.
