Description
.PETEIS. PHOTCLUTHOGRAPIIH. WASHINGTON. D CA tinted R. M. sELDIs. or NEW YORK,- N. Y., ASSIGNOR TO MYER STERN.
OF SAME PLACE.
LmmraumtV No. 91,371, dated .Tune 15, 186e.
IMPROVEMENT IN FUR. COI'ILARS.
'The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom 'it ma/y concern:
VBe it known that`I, 1%. M. SELDIs, of the city, county, and State ofNew York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fur Collars for Gentlemens Wear; and do hereby declare that the following is a general description thereof', reference being had to the accompanying drawings, making part of this specification, of which- Figure 1 represents an inside view of my improved collar as developed, showing the ear-protectors folded in the collar;
Figure 2, a side elevation, shwing the said collar in its application to the' human formywth' the earprotectors in use, and the lapels overlapped on the bosom; and v Figure 3, a face view of same.
Thenatureof this invention consists in constructing a fur collar, with flaps for covering the weareIJs ears, which are folded into the collar until required for use, when they are drawn "forth, and being united by an elastic string, which is passed over and on the head, the ears of the wearer are protected from the cold; and also in constructing the said collar with lapels, which overlap each other, so as to have a double thickness of fur in front, to prevent the cold striking the neck and breast of the wearer.
In the said drawings- A indicates' a fur collar.
B B, the ear-aps, connected by an elastic string, 11, for protecting the ears of the wearer. (See igs. l and 2.
C C) are pockets, into which the ear-flaps are folded when not required for use;
D D are the lapels, which overlap each other, and protect the neck and breast from cold; and
E is the elastic collar-fastening.
The fur collars as now made, when fastened round the neck, leave an open slit in front of the' neck and breast, into which the cold strikes, rendering the wearer uncomfortable, while the ears were not protected from the effects of frost by the collar.
These defects suggested to me the improvements described herein.
What I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent,
A fur collar, provided with ear-aps B B, pockets C C, sustaining-cord b, and lapels D D, arranged substantially as described.
In'testiruony whereof, I have hereunto set my signature,- this 10th day f February, A. D. 1869.
' R. M. SELDIS.
