FIRE-ESCAPE.
Specification of LettersiPatent.
Patented Feb. 2,3, 1909.
Appucation med July 1o, 190s. serial No. 825,477.
To all-whom ffmc/y concern:
Be it known that I, KLAAS G. FEY-MA', a citizen of the United States', residin at Sandstone, in the county of Pine and tate of Minnesota, have invented a new and useful vIm rovement in Fire-Escapes, of which the fol owing is a specification.
This invention relates to fire escapes and more particularly to portable fire escapes,
the object being to provide a fire escapez which is veryrsimple and chea in construction and one which is very eilective in use.v
Another object of my invention is k"to provide aflexible chute in connection with the rope ladder, so thatif the person slips oil",
he will be caught in the chute.
With these and 4various otherobjects in vlew, the lnventlon consists 1n the novel features of constructlon, combmation and arrangement of parts, hereinafter fully described and pointed out in the claim.
In the drawings of a portion of m improve re'escape attached to the win ow of a building. Fig. 2
' is a vertical sectional view of the same. Fig.
3 isa'horizontal sectional view through the upper portion of the chiite and frame. Fig. 4 is a sid'eviewfof a portion of the escape. Fig. 5 is a perspective view of the .frame and a portion of the loop.
Referrin to the drawings A indicates a pair of-,ang ed perforated bars connected to.
gether by. perforated cross bars A", adjacent each end form-ing a rectangular frame, which is adapted; to be securedacross the window frame. Secured to 'the lower angle bar, adjacent each end isan eye B, in which the eyes of the loops C and D are loosely mounted. Securedto the bars A, and A', of the frame is a'canvas hood E, supported by the loops C and ,D havino' a canvas chute F, connected thereto, forme of-a series of sctions connected together having hoops G arranged therein -at the connecting points.
vFlexible bands H are arranged on the outforming a part of this l specification ;-Figure 1 is a perspectiveview forming contracted ortions for thel purpose hereinafter described). `The sections are split adjacent each hoop and are connected together by buckles and straps I, forming openings so that the chute can be readily repaired when desired, and forming air open-y 1n s when in use. Arope I is secured to the si e of'the chute, the whole length of the same having loops left at the llexlble bands, so that the chute can expand, the upper end of the rope being secured to the lower angle bar and securely supporting the chute.v
A bit J is secured'in the window frame under the 'sill and is provided with a ring J', to which a snap hoF is secured which .ing all the way down.
side of the section midway between the hoops- Having thus'fully described my inven- 1 tion, what I claim as new and desire to secure by Letters Patent isz- A fire escape compr and lower horizontal bars adaptedv toengage the side bars of a` window frame, eyes secured to the lower horizontal bars, loops pivotally mounted in said eyes forming a'7 support for a canvas hood carried by said frameV and a chute connected to sai'd hood formed of a plurality. of sections connected together having hoops arranged `at the connecting portions and elastic bands arranged intermediate said'hoo s.` KLAAS G RBENS FEYMA.
