To whom it may conce/rn'.-

Be it known that we, GEORGE PADDINGTON and WALTER F. CREW, of Waubeck, in the county of `Linn, and State of Iowa, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Haines-Straps; and we do declare .that the following is a true and accurate descriptiou thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, .and being a part of this specification.

The nature oi' this invention relates to an improvement in haines-straps; and consists in the peculiar arrangement of the plates: and spring.

I A, in the drawings, representsa proper plate, provided with guides D, through which -passes the plate C, the same being perforated, as shown.

4B is a spring, secured, at one end, by screw F, or otherwise, `to the guides, and is provided with a tongue, which is designed to engage with the holes in the plate O, and hold the same firmly in position.,

The outer ends of' the plates A and O, are provided with hooks, rings, or other devices, by means of which they are attached to the Thames.`

Whenever it becomes necessary to ufasten the.

hames, raise the spring with its tongue out of its engagement with the holes in plate C, when the' said plate may be drawn frein the guides.
