Description

iilntni mes sUsAN o.cUnR1E,or NEW-romeni?.
Lettcrs'Pctent No. 90,997-, dated .Time 8, 1869.
IMPROVEMENT IN POCKET-BOOKS.
The Schedule referred to in these Lettere Patent and making part of the same.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known 'that I, SUSAN 0.0Unn1n, ofthe city, county, and State of" New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Fastening,r and Safety-Pin for Portemonna-ies; and I do hereby declare that the .following is a full, clear, :ind enact description therepocket-hook, or other article, as will he hereinaftermore fully described.
In the accompanying plate of drawings, n portemonnaie is .shown with my fastening and safety-pin attnched.
Ais the portenionnaie, the same or similar to those ordinarily carried in the pocket.
B is the fastening, which consists of an elastic band,
provided with metallic plates c, each plate having a hole-for fastening on t-o a. small knob, cl.
The fastening-band B is secured to the flap E by an eyelet-tstening, f, through 'the plate g.
The knob or hook d is rigidly attached to the' plate g.
The band B is suliciently elastic to allow the portemonnaie to expand and contract1 according to its bulk or contents, and the adj nsting-plates c allow it to be tightly fastened, whether it is full or not, thus rendering it unnecessary to drew the tstening-band so tightly as to soon destroy it, as is usually done. vThe hand is tipped by the adj usting-phtte ou its ends, as seen in the drawings. These. plates are fastened to the band by eyelets, which eyelets form the holes for fastening the knob d. v
H represents the saiet\"pin, which is connected with the porteinonnaie by a jointed finger, c', and plate j, es seen in the drawing, or hn any other suitable manner.
7a is the chain.
The pinastening is similar to an ordinary breastpin.V
This pin may be fastened to the dress or pocket of a gentleman or lady, so as to be a perfectprotection while the portemonnaie is in the pocket. It enables a lady to attach it securely to any part of her dress when travelling in the cars or elsewhere, and at night the portemonnaie or pocket-book may bc attnchedto any part of the night-clothes, or to the pillow, so es Vto be perfectly secure.-
A portemonnaie, wallet, pocket-book, or any other similar article, constructed in this manner, may be kept in it proper condition by the adjustable fastening, and be perfectly secure from the depredations of; thieves and pickpockets at all times.
Having thus described my invention,
I claim as new, and desire to secure by Letters Petent- 1. The adjustable elastic band-fastening and the safety-pin, whether used in combination or separately, when applied to a portemonnaie, wallet, pocket-book, or other article of a similar nature, substantially as and for the purpose described.
2. In combination with a portelnonnnie, the safetychoin K, arranged substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
. SUSAN C. OURRIE.
