Enum-GATE.
` To all 'whom it may concern.'
Be it known that I, HOMER 'SPAFFORD A MUNSON, a citizen of the United States, re.
' siding at Redlands, in the county'of San Bernardino and State of California; have invented certain new and useful Improvements in FlumeGates; and I do hereby declare the following-to be a full, elcarylnd exact description of the invention, suc zas will enable others skilled in the art to which' it appertains to make anduse the same.
This invention relates to 'ew and useful.
improvements in Hume gates, nd it is an ob.-`
ject of. the invention to provfde 'a novel device of this character Which can 'be quickly applied in operativeposition- 1t is also an object of the invention to provide a novel device of this character wherein the gate holder will effectually hold the gate' or. slide against the ends of the flume.
I t'is also an object of the 'invention to rovide a novel device of this character W ich will be simple in construction, efficient and advantageous in practice and comparatively inexpensive to manufacture.
It is also `an object of the invention to' l-provide a novel device of this character wherein the tube of' the gate is threaded,
making it easy to attach or detach from the flume or irrigating device. With the above and other objects in view, theinvention consists of the details of construction 'and in the novel arrangement and combination of partsto be particularly referredv to.
In describing thel lnventlon in',` detail, ref- V erence will be had to the accompanying draw-- ings forming part of this specification, wherein like charactersof reference denote correspondingparts'in the several rviews and in whlch,
its opposite end portion projectingthrough a Figure 1 is a view in frontelevation'of the invention. Fig. 1. Figil 3 is a View on the line 3--3, Fig. 1. e Fig. 4 is a gate detached.
In lthe drawings, 1 denotes 4a cylindrical tube, which has one of its ends threaded and i Specication of Letters Patent. 'Application mea september 15, 190s., sen-a1 No. 453474,'

thereto to form operating means 5 and the gate or slide 4is resiliently held against the-I ends of the tube 1 by the cylindrical springs 6 which are formed on the l0`n itudinal edges ofthegate holder. In order t at the springs of two plies of irietal.v 'lhis arrangement also ."aiiords a 4rounded surface 7 to contact with the gate 4; Attention is directed to'the fact that the lower edge of the gate `4 is rovided with a main semicircular recess 8l w ich has formed centrally of itsedge a second recess 9 approximately U-shaped. By this arrangement various .discharges from the tube 1 may 6ov may fproperly perform their functions the edge portions are bent back upon themselves so that the cylindrical springs will b'e formed be obtained without the necessity of undue gate 4, asjt is believed to be holder secured thereto, said gate holder hav- 'w ing its edge portions bent upon themselves to form cylindrical springs of a miiltiplicity of plies and a gate movable Vwith relation tothe end of the l'lume, and having a semi-circular recess in its lower edge and a second recessin the edge of the semifcircular recess, being v contacted With by the cylindrical spring.
2. n combination with a flume, a gate holder anda gate movable within the holder,
said .gate having a Vsemi-circular recess formed in one of its edges, said gate having a second recess formed in the edge of the semicircularrecess.
'nameto this specification in the presence of two subscribing witnesses. v
