LACE-FASTENER.

To all whom it may concern:

Be it known that I, SYvER LOE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Minneapolis, in the county of Hennepin and State of Minnesota, have invented certain new and useful Improvements inLace-Fasteners; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.

My invention has for its object to provide an improved lace fastener for shoes, gloves and other articles having separable flaps or parts that aie connected by lacings or strings, and to this end the invention consists of the novel devices and arrangement of plarts hereinafter described and define d in the c aim.

The subject of the present invention isV illustrated inthe accompanying drawings, wherein like characters indicate like parts throughout the several views.

Referring to the drawings, Figure 1 is a perspective view, showing a pair of my improved lace fasteners applied to the upper edge portions of the shoe flaps. Fig. 2 is a plan view showing one of the improved devices removed from the shoe flap. Fig. 3 is a section taken on the line x3 :c3 of Fig. 2, and Fig. 4 is a section taken on the line x4 x4 of Fig. 2.

In Fig. 1, the numeral 1 indicates the flaps of a mans shoe, the same having the usual lace hooks 2.

The lacing or shoe string is indicated by the numeral 3.

The entire fastener is stamped from a single piece of thin sheet metal, and the body 4 thereof is preferably given an a proXimately bell-shaped outline in plan, as fiest shown in Fig.. 2, and it is provided with a U-shaped slit 5 that forms a string clamping tongue 6. The said clamping tongue 6 is left attached to the said body portion 4 at one end, but is pressed laterally so that it diverges slightly Specification of Letters Patent.

from said body portion, thereby forming a clamping crotch that is adapted to receive the string or lace 3. To prevent cutting of the string the tongue 6 is dished or curved in cross section, and the sides of the U-shaped body portion are dished or curved in an opposite direction, as best shown in Fig. 4. The body portion 4 is provided with three projecting prongs 7 that are adapted to be pressed through the shoe flap and to be clenched on the inner side thereof, thereby securely fastening the device in working position. As shown, one of these prongs 7 is located at the intermediate bowed portion of the body 4, and the other two are located at the extremities of the sides thereof.

The manner in which the lace or string may be secured by the fasteners is illustrated in Fig. 1, it being of course evident that the string may be clamped and securely held when tightly drawn into the diverging crotch formed between the tongue 6 and the sides of the body 4.

The device described may be stamped from a sheet of thin metal and pressed into the form shown in Figs. 2, 3 and 4, ready for application to the shoe flap or other device, at very small cost. In practice the device has beenfound highly efficient for the purposes had in view.

What I claim is:

A lace fastener comprising a thin metal body having side portions and having pressed therefrom but secured thereto at one end a clamping tongue that is dished or curved in cross section and is convex on its inner side, and the side portions of said body being reversely dished in cross section, and the said body having projecting barbs, substantially as described.
