Description

To all whom 'it may conce/rn Letters .Patent No. 90,701, dated June 1, 1869; antedated May 19, 1869.
IMPROVED SPRIN G- ROCKING-CHAIR The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and making paxt of the same.
Be it known that I, DANIEL E. TEAL, of Norwich,
' inthe county of Chenango, and, State of N ew York,
have invented a new and improved Spring Rocking- Chair; and I do hereby declare that the following is a full, clear, and exact description thereof, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, and to the letters of reference marked thereon, making a part of this specification. l
Figure l is a side elevation.
Figure 2 is a plan, or bottom view reversed.
Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in all of the figures.
/ -rlhe nature of my invention consists inthe construction of a chair, vprovided with springs, attached to a frame, or spider between the bottom of the chair and the stool, so arranged as to allow the chair to rock, or tilt back, without rocking forward, at the option o' the sitter.
To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention,.I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation.
I take any kind of chair in use, and to the seat, or bottom of the chair A is attached an iron, frame, or spider, B, fastened with screws.
At or near the centre of the spider is a box, or mortise, C, which made rectangular in form.
The object of the box, or mortise is to receive the end of a shaft, D, which is attached to the stool of the chair. At the upper end of the shaft is a pivot, connecting the stool to the seat. Y
In front, and back of the shaft, inside of the box, or mortise, are springs F F, to keep the shaft in the centre of the mortise, also to give a rocking motion to the chair when desired, at the option of the sitter. G- G are holes in the box, or mortise, for the insertion of pivots, to keep the chair from vrocking forward or backward, when desired.v
Having thus described my invention,
Vhat I claim, and desireto secure by Letters Patent, is y l. The box, or mortise C, when used in connection with the shaft D, as and for Vthe purpose specified.
2. The combination of spider B, box, or mortise O, shaft D, and springs F F, as and for the purpose herein described.
DANIEL E. TEAL.
