HEAD-REST.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed April 24, 1908.
Patented Dec. 8, 1908.
Serial No. 429,089.
T all whom it may concern:
V hair without the liability of splattering or wettim the clothes of the person being treate Another object of the invention is to pro vide a sim le and efficient device for resting the head uring the operation of rinsing the hair after it has been shampooed, the construction of the device being such that either the back of the head may be supported upon the rest or the forehead of the person sup ported upon the rest in position so as to not interfere with breathing during the operation.
These and other objects may be attained by means of the construction illustrated in the accompanying drawing, in which,
Figure 1 is a perspective view of a head rest made in accordance with my invention, said head rest being shown in use and attached to a stationary washstand. Fig. 2 is a perspective view looking at the front of the head rest. Fig. 3 is a plan view of the same. Fig. 4 is a side view of the head rest, a portion of the washstand being shown in section.
Referring to the drawings for a more specific description of my invention, the numeral 1 designates an ordinary stationary washstand to which my head rest may be secured. The head rest consists of a catch basin 2 provided with a marginal flange 3 which extends partially around the same and is omitted at the point 4 to permit the Water to run off. This catch basin has a central recess 5 in the front portion thereof and is rounded at the outer edge, as at 6. This catch basin is supported upon a base 7 in an inclined position, said base having end lugs 8 engaged by suitable clamps 9 for holding the device firmly in place upon the washstand. Su )ported upon suitable legs 10 secured at their ower ends to the basin 2 is a padded rest 11 of curved formation in which the person being treated may rest the head either upon the neck por tion or upon the forehead.
The operation of my head rest may be briefly described as follows: After the hair has been thoroughly cleaned the head is thrown back upon the rest 11 and the hair thoroughly rinsed. Should it be necessary to get at the back of the head to rinse the hair the patient turns over and rests the forehead upon the rest 11, the cut-out portion 5 of the basin 2 permitting the mouth and nostrils free action.
From the foregoing it will be obvious that my invention is of a simple character, can be instantly clamped to a washstand ready for use, is ellicient for its purpose and can be manufactured at slight cost.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new, is 2- 1. A head rest comprising a support, a curved catch basin mounted upon said support and provided with a marginal flange cut away at one portion, and a head rest rising from said basin.
2. A head rest for barbers use comprising a base portion adapted to be clamped to a stationary washstand, a curved catch basin, and a curved head rest above the catch basin.
3. A head rest for barber's use comprising a catch basin having a curved recess in one side thereof, a marginal flange extending partially around the same, and a head rest supported upon feet rising from said catch basin.
In testimony whereof I affix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
HATTIE GREENE.
