To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, JOHN E. FRYE, citizen of the United States, residing at Boston, in I the county of Suii'olk and State of Massachusetts, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Gas-Tips, of which the l the durable nature of that metal, and the following is a'specification.
The present invention relates to certain new and useful improvements in gas light-- ing appliances and more particularly to an lmproved burner provided with a novel check for regulating the supply of gas to the tip.

Corresponding and like parts are referred to in the following description and indicated in all the views of the drawings by the same reference characters.
Specifically describing the present embodiment of the invention the numeral 1' designates the burner base which is designed to be applied to a chandelier or like member. This base is preferably formed from an in tegral piece of material and has the upper end thereof closed by a transverse partition 2 provided with a central opening and also with a series of perforations 3, four of these perforations being shown in the present construction. An annular shoulder 4 is formed upon the exterior of the base 1 a slight distance below the upper end thereof, and the portion of the base above this shoulder is fact of common knowledge that the exteriorly threaded-as indicated at 5 to receive a tip 6 the lower end of which is designed to abut against the shoulder when the tip is screwed into position. This tip 6 may be formed of any suitable material although cast iron is preferably employed owing to said tip is formed with a transverse slit 7 through which the gas is adapted to issue andbe consumed in the usual manner. Cooperating with the transverse partition 2 at the upper end of the base is a rotary disk 8 provided with perforations 9 corresponding ,to the perforations 3 of the partition and designed to be turned either into or out of registry with the same. Projecting downwardly from the central portion of the disk 8 is a pivot stud 10 designed to be received within the central opening of the partition 2, and the said stud may either be threaded within the opening or may have the extremity thereof upset as may be found the most convenient in manufacture. The upper portion of the disk 8 gradually decreases in thickness toward the periphery thereof and is'formed atits central portion with a transverse slot 11 designed to receive a screw driver or similar tool employed for rotating the disk.
In the formation of the device it will be readily apparent that should the gas pres sure at the burner be excessive so as to cause a waste of the gas, the disk 8 can be turned to throw the perforations therein only in a partial registry with the perforations of the transverse partition 2, thereby reducing the flow of gas through the burner to the re- .quired extent and preventing the waste. However, should the pressure of gas not be excessive the disk 8 can be adjusted to throw the perforations 9 and 3 in a full registry with each other, thereby permitting an unobstructed flow of the gas.
Having thus described the invention, what is claimed as new is:
