FRIEDRICH BRAUN, OF DRESDEN, GERMANY,
ELECTRIC-CURRENT BATHING-TUB.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Application filed December 4, 1907.
Patented Nov. 24, 1908.
Serial No. 405,071.
T 0 all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, Fninnnion Baum, doctor of medicine, a. subject of the King of Saxony, residing at Dresden, Saxony, Germany, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Electric-Current Bathing- Tubs.
There are already on the market bathing tub appliances for the treatment of the human body by means of electric currents which especially in cases of diseases of the body and the limbs have had a beneficial result. These appliances for the most part consist of a bathing tub for the body proper and a similar one for the limbs and are arranged within one another according to the various styles adopted by the makers. However, the use of these separate tubs is subject to many disadvantages, such as the enforced uncomfortable posture of the patient, ottering a troublesome treatment, or the liability of the screws of the discharging pipes becoming slack with subsequent leakage. TllGl" are also disadvantages in a sanitary respect such as temporary interruption of the circulation, all tending to often counteract the intended cure.
The present appliance. hereafter described and illustrated by drawings refers to a novel kind of bathing tub for the treatment of the human body. in particular of the body proper and of the limbs by means of electric currents. A special feature of the appliance is that only one tub made of insulating material and divided into two by an insulated partition, is required, one division to contain the body proper, the other to contain the limbs and thus to enable the patient to be lifted easily and comfortably, without interrupting the circulation of the blood, insuring the utmost comfort for the patient. To effect this the insulating partition is shaped in such a way as to support the knee-joints at the same time.
In the accompanying drawing the invention is shown by way of example.
Figure 1 is a lateral view, and Fig. 2 a ground view.
According to the drawings the bathing tub is divided into two parts 0 and (Z by the insulating partition I). The current is sent through the electrode 0 which is connected to the bathing tub division (Z and leaves by the terminal arranged in the tub division 0.
lVhen making use of the appliance the arrangement is to have the body placed into the division (Z and the feet into division 0, the knees are then placed by their hollows across the partition Z) in such a manner that the latter supports and carries the former.
\Vh'at I claim as my invention and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is:
A bath tub, electrodes at the ends thereof, a partition of insulating material. extending completely across the tub and adapted to support the knees of the bather with the feet in one compartment and the body in another.
In witness whereof I have hereunto set my hand in presence of two witnesses.
FRIEDRTCI'I BRAUN.
Vitnesses PAUL ARRAS, CLARE SIMON.
