C. DUPRESNE.
NAPKIN SUPPORTER.
APPLICATION FILED Nov.,19o7.

' v M3 #fran/MEX CHARLES DUFRESNE, OF CHICAGO, ILLINOIS.
NAPKIN-SUPPORTER.
Specification of Letters Patent.
Patented Nov. 3, 1908.
Application filed November 6, 1907. Serial No. 400,965.
To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, CHARLES DUFRESNE, a citizen of the United States, residing at Chicago. in the county of Cook and State of Illinois, have invented certain new and useful Improvements in Napkin-Supporters; and I hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the invention, such as will enable others skilled in the art to which it appertains to make and use the same.
My invention relates to a novel device for holding a napkin about the neck of the wearer; the object being to provide a device for this purpose to which the napkin can be readily attached and firmly held, and which can be easily put on and removed from the neck7 and consists in the features of construction and combinationsI of parts hereinafter fully described and claimed.
In the accompanying` drawing illustrating my invention Figure lis a perspective view of a supporter made in accordance with my invention. Fig. 2- is an enlarged cross section through the middle portion of the supporter showing` a napkin in place. Fig. 3- is a view of the supporter before it is bent to the U-shape, to more clearly illustrate the slots for receiving the corner of the napkin.
My supporter consists of a U-shaped Hat spring collar A, the ends B being curved outwardly to a slight extent to facilitate the placing of the holder in position about the neck.
The middle portion of the holder is provided with two parallel longitudinal slots or openings C and D through which the corner of the napkin may be threaded and clamped as will be explained.
The corner E of the napkin F is first passed through the lower slot D from the outside of the supporter then it is passed through the upper slot C from the inside of the supporter and then the body of the napkin is passed around the lower edge of the supporter to the inside and over the top edge of same to the outerside of the supporter when it is ready for the supporter to be placed in position on the neck.
It is obvious that the corner of the napkin will be firmly held in the supporter on account of the clamping effect of the body of the napkin where it overlies the free corner after it has been passed through the upper slot.
My device is very simple and easily applied.
I claim as my invention- A napkin holder comprising a substan tially oval shaped flat spring member formed of a single strip of material and having each terminus thereof bent slightly outwards forming a relatively short arm at the smaller end of the holder, said arms projecting in opposite directions with respect to each other, the portions of said member at the bends being arranged in close proximity to each other, said member having the central portion at its closed end provided with a plurality of elongated slots of such a length as to extend along a portion of each side of said member, said slots arranged in parallelism with respect to each other.
In testimony whereof I have signed my name in presence of two subscribing Witnesses.
CHARLES DUFR-ESNE. Witnesses E. F. lVILsoN, M. C. JOHNSON.
