Fish BuTton f il' 'l ll l Y mnesata, inventor UNITED STATES WILLIAM A. LINDSEY, OF NARBER'IH, PENNSYLVANIA.
COMBINED ELECTRIC ALARM AND LIGHT.
. To all whom it may concern:
Be it known that I, WILLIAM A.
Narberth, in the county of Montgomery and State of Pennsylvania, have invented new and useful Improvements in a Combined Electric Alarm and Light, of which the following is a specification.
The obj ect of this invention is, primarily, to safeguard the en'tranceito a domicile, or to a factory or building gliarded by a watchman, by the turning on of. an electric light at the instant a bell is rung to call someone to the door; thereby enabling the one answer ing the call to closely observe or recognize the person calling, and especially as a matter of safety, so that the door shall not be opened for an objectionable or dangerous person to gain admittance. In sparsely settled districts tramps and other obnoxious or dangerous persons take advantage, under the cover of darkness, to frighten-timid persons, to gain admittance, and frequently to assault the one opening the door; The devices may also be arranged in a room, with the bell and the electric light in close proximity, by ringing the bell and simultaneously turning on a bright light, which will help to awaken a sleeper, and thereafter be a con .venience to the person called, as the light continues until its current is cut off by an independent slwitch.
The invention is illustrated in the accompanying drawing, Figure .1, wherein the combination comprises a regular push button, or normally open switch, 1, located exterior to the outer door of the building when the devices are arranged as a protection for the doori- The swi tdh 1 closes the circuit to the electric light 2 through relay 3 and at the same time causesvibrating bell 4 to ring as long as switch 1 is; closed; the operation of relay 3 closes the lighting circuit through Contact 5, the relay being locked up through contact 6. The light continues until the relay is released by theoperation of the push button 7 to open the eircuitthrough contact 6. If it is desired to turn on. the light from the inside of the door the push button 8 will close contact and operate relay 3 for such purpose, and button 7 may be used to extinguish the light. Relay 3 of not more than 20 ohms resistance willprcferably be located in the cellar, and arranged to closctwo eon- Battery 9, dry or gravity type, arranged so as to give 4 Volts,
Specification of Letters Patent. Application filed July is,
LINDSEY, a citizen of the United States, residing at Patented Oct. 20, 1908. 1907. Serial No. 384,369.
I will preferably be located in thetcellar. Fuse block 10 containing a one ampere fuse is preferably located in the cellar. A regular lighting switch 11 is provided to openthe lighting circuit when the light is not needed, as .during the daytime.
Instead of the push button 1 there may be a switchas seen in Fig. 2, comprising the usual door knob 12 with a contact bar 13 adapted to close the circuit when the knob is turned, and thereby ring bell 4 and turn on lamp 2 when an attempt is made to enter without calling someone to the door.
I claim.
1. A combinedelectric' alarm and light vided with a switch, as 1, an audible alarm device, a relay, and a source 'of electrical energy; an electrical conductor rovided with a lamp and switch which atter is adapted to be operated by the relay; and a supplemental conductor in'connection with the battery 9 and relay and provided with a switch, as 6, for locking the relay when the switch 1 is open.
2. A combined electric alarm and light system comprising an electrical conductor provided with a switch, as 1', an audible alarm device, a relay, and a source'of electrical energy; an electrical conductor provided with a lamp and switch which latter is adapted to be closed by the relay a conductor in connection with the battery 9 and relay, and providc lwith a switch 6; and a the battery and relay, and provided with a switch, as 8, for throwing the lamp in circuit.
3. A combined electric alarm and light system comprising an electrical conductor provided with a door knob switch, an audible alarm device, a relay, and a source of electrical energy; an electrical conductor probeing adapted to be operated by the relay and close the circuit through the lamp when the door knob switch closes the circuit through the relay; and a supplemental conductor in connecti n with the battery 9 and relay and provide with a switch 6, for the purpose set forth.
In testimony whereof I aflix my signature in presence of two witnesses.
