To all whom it may concern:
a citizen of the United States, of Boston, in the county of Sufiolk and State ofMassachu setts, have invented a new and useful Improvement inOlamping and Adjusting Devices for Printing-Presses, of which the following, taken in connection with the accompanying drawings, is a specification.
My invention relates to that part of a.
printing-press that comprises the sheet-moving, holding and adjustmg mechanism, these parts being described and claimed in my application for United States Letters Patent Serial Number 244,209, filed February 4, 1905, of which application this present application is a division.
The object is to obtain certainty, accuracy and celerity of action. This object I attain by the mechanism shown in the accompanying drawings, in Which i I Figure 1 is aplan'showing a part of the platen and the two clamping fingers and connected parts. one of the clamping fingers and its connected parts, the posltion of some of the parts changed from the positionof the same parts, as shown in Fig. 1. Fig. 3 shows parts in section and elevation. g In the drawings B and B represent clamping fingers which are adjustably attached to the rocker shaft B by thumb-screws B The rocker shaft B is of ordinary construction and is adjusted in the usual manner. The clamp ing finger B ,that is, the finger most remote from the delivery table, has a longitudinal slot B Figs. 1, and 2, which is made for the purpose of making room for the slidin gage finger G this gage finger G has a clip 1 which serves as an auxiliarygage for regisa tering the sheet upon the platen and is connected to a uill G which is mounted on the quill B, which can be moved longitudinally on the rocker shaft B. The said quill B serves as a journal for said quill G to slide u on. The said second quill G has arms G G which have inclined terminals as shown, which are constructed to operate with the similar inclines on the arms 13 B connected with the clamping-finger B; a s ring G attached to the collar B (fixed to t e quillB serves to hold the moving gage finger G down on to the platen and alsov to ush the said gage G back on the platen a lttle removed Fig. 2 is a plan showing only from the lace on the platen P that would be occupied by the edge of the sheet to be printed. When the clamping-finger B? is raised up as indicated in Figs. 1, and 3, then the moving gage G is forced back away from the position at the edge of the sheet to be printed but whenthe clamping finger B is coming down to its sheet-holding position, as shown in Fig." 2, then the moving gage G is forced forward (by the inclines B B acting onthe inclines G G against'the edge of the sheet to be printed, and in its forward movement forces the said sheet intothe exact po sitionfor printing and also into the field of action of the gripper not shown. The clamping finger B has attached to it an auxiliary adjustable arm B held by a thumb-screw B which works through a slot B, (see Figs. 1, and 2). The outervedges of the clamping fingers B B are serrated for the purpose of retaining sheet-holding cords in any desired places.
Claims.
1. In a printing-press, a platen for supporting the sheets, a rocker shaft having a clamping finger attached, a sheet-moving registering gage slidably connected with said clamping finger and having a moving uill by which it is attached to a second quil on said rocker shaft, and means for automatictering gage and having arms provided with inclines whereby the movement of the fingers will cause a movement of the said gage, and cause it to move the sheet into the field of action of the gripping device; substantially as and for the purpose set forth.
3. In a printing-press, a platen for supporting the sheets, a clamping finger for holding the sheets, and a rocker shaft for operating said clamping finger, a registering gage mediately connected to said rocker shaft and clamping finger, a set of arms mediately connected to the said rocker shaft and having inclined terminals, asecond set of arms connected to the said clamping finger also having inclined terminals constructed to two subscribing witnesses, on this 3d day of engage with and operate the arms on the October A.
