The piston 17 is provided with a number of packing rings 18 o f the usual typev and has integrally formed .within it a cylindrical bearing 19 `which engages Witha cylindrical head 20 formedinte- .grally on the upper end ofthe connecting rod 2 1. *This bearin is in the form of an undercut'slot, 'the un er-cut .portion being cylindrical in shape and'extending completely across the piston.l 1 The connecting rodv21 is preferably cast integral with the eccentric vstrap 22. The bearings 19 and 20 are kept in proper relative position by engagement with the Walls of the cylinder no other means beingnecessary. Bymaking the cylindrical portion 20 off'a 'len th equal almost to the internal diameter o Vthe piston, and itself of considerable' diameter, asufficient bearing surface w11l be secured, so as not torequire the need of any yadjusting devices. vThis' bearing i's extremely cheap and is eiiicient in operatlon, and'may be very readily taken apart, by first removing the cylinder.
