My invention relates to improvements in printing frames, and pertains more particularly to frames for printing stereoscopic pictures.
The object of my invention is to provide a printing frame in which any part of the negative can be printed, in case it is larger than can be put into a stereoscopic picture.
Another object of my invention is to pro- 'vide a more simple cheap and effective frame to accomplish the above results.
In the accompanying drawings, Figure 1, is a top plan view of my complete printing frame. Fig. 2, is a top plan view of the paper carrying frame with the negative frame removed. Fig. 3, is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line :c.r of Fig. 2. Fig. 1, is a longitudinal sectional view taken on the line g of Fig. 1. Fig. 5, is a top plan view of the negative carrying means with the holding means removed. Fig. 6, is a top plan view of the negative holding means. Fig. 7, is a detail view of the stop for limiting the movement of the paper clamping means. Fig. 8, is a plan view of a metal plate used in lettering the picture.
Referring now to the drawings, 1 represents my improved frame which, as shown, is of an elongated rectangular form, and is formed of a solid body portion 2 having the flange 3 entirely surrounding the same. The bottom at each end is provided with a cutaway portion 4 and 5 in which are pivotally mounted the paper clamping members 6 and 7 which, as shown, are pivoted intermediate their ends by pivots 8. The inner ends of the said members are cut-away at 9 forming the flange 9, and when swung in the position shown in dotted lines, Fig. 3, extend above the solid central portion 10 of the bottom. The paper to be printed upon is of a size slightly larger than the said central portion, and when the two members are swung upwardly, as shown in dotted lines, Fig. 3, and the paper placed upon the central body portion the ends of the paper will extend under the flanges 9, and when the said members them downward and clamp the paper upon the solid body portion. The frame at the ends is provided with the loop members 11 which, as shown, are provided with the slots 12, and the lower ends thereof are bent slightly inward which forms a clamp for preventing the paper-clamping members 6 and 7 from accidentally swinging downward. The said paper clamping members are provided with screws or headed pins 14 which extend outwardly and pass through the elongated slots 12, whereby the downward movement of the .clamping members is limited.
The flange 3 at the sides is provided with oppositely arranged elongated plates 15 which, as shown, are arranged in two pairs, and which are spaced a slight distance from the flange to allow the spring arms of the negative carrying member to pass under the same, as will be hereinafter more fully described.
The negative-carrying member 16 is of an elongated form, and of a width to snugly fit within the paper-carrying frame, but of a length considerably less in order to have the proper longitudinal or endwise adjustment. The negative frame is formed of a rectangular form having the broad solid portions 17 and 18 at the ends connected to the side bars 19 and 20. The said broad end portions have pivotally connected thereto the spring clamping members 21 and 22 which are adapted to be swung under the plates 15, and whereby the negative-carrying member is held firmly within the p aper-carrying member, and firmly holding the negative down upon the paper, as will be hereinafter more fully described. The solid portions of the ends of the negative frame are provided with screws 25 and 26 abutting against screws 23 and 24, carried by the paper-carrying frame, and by adjusting the screws 23 and 24 in or out the longitudinal movement of the negative holder is regulated. The side bars 19 and 20 of said negative holder are provided with the plates 27 which are oppositely arranged and spaced a slight distance from the said side bars to allow a spring clamping member to pass under the same. One of the side bars 20 of the negative-carrying member is provided with a spring 28 at one side which serves to press the holder close against one side of the paper frame which insures the alinement of the two pictures. The bottom of the negative holder is covered with a piece of thin sheet metal 29 which has an opening 30 therein, which is of a proper size and shape to expose just enough of the paper to print one part of the double picture. To hold the negative upon the thin sheet of metal I employ a block 31 which is provided with an opening 32 which corresponds with the op ening 30, and exposes the negative to the light while the opening 30 in the sheet metal plate exposes a portion of the paper to be printed upon. The block 31 at its ends is provided with the spring clamping members 33 which are adapted to swing under the plates 27 of the negative-carryin member and firmly clamp the negative within the frame.
In Fig. 8 1 have shown a lettering frame constructed the same as the negative carrier, except that the thin sheet of metal is provided with the openings 34 so arranged that they will be on the outside or in the margin of the picture, and thus not deface the picture while lettering the same.
The paper is placed within the paper-carrying frame, as heretofore described, and locked therein, the negative-carrying member being placed within the same at one end with the screw 23 abutting screw 25, and the negative being therein it will be seen from Fig. 4 that the left-hand half of the paper is exposed and printed upon from the negative above, the other half of the paper being fully protected from the light. After the picture has been fully printed the spring clamping members 22 are swung from under the plates 15 and the negative holder is moved longitu dinally within the paper-carrying frame until the screw 24 abuts the screw 26, whichbrings the opening in the metal plate 30 just at the edge of the previously printed picture, and the same clamped therein, thus printing the two pictures upon a single piece of paper without a margin between the same.
Having thus described my invention, what I claim, and desire to secure by Letters Patent, is
1. A printing frame comprising a papercarrying frame, means for clamping the paper therein, a negative-carrying frame longitudinally adjustably supported within the paper-carrying frame, plates carried by the sides of the paper carrying frame pivoted spring clamping members carried by the negative-carrying frame, and passing under the plates carried by the paper frame, a metal plate carried by the negative frame, a block for holding the negative in the frame,- and pivoted spring clamping members carried by the block and passing under plates carried by the negative holder, and means for regulating the longitudinal movement of the negative holder within the paper holder.
2. A printing frame com rising a papercarrying frame, means for c amping the paper therein, a negative-carrying frame longitudinally adjustably supported within the paper frame, plates carried by the sides of the paper-carrying frame pivoted spring clamping members carried by the negative frame, a metal plate carried by the negative frame, and having an opening therein to expose a portion of the negative, a block for holding the negative in the frame and pivoted spring clamping members carried by the block and passing under plates carried by the negative holder, and means for regulating the longitudinal movement of the negative holder within the paper frame.
3. A printing frame, comprising a paper frame having a solid central portion, pivoted end portions having their lower inner ends cut away to form shoulders which are adapted to engage and clamp the paper on the solid central portion, and a negative holder removably carried and longitudinally adj ustable within the paper holder.
4. A printing frame, comprising a paper frame having a solid central portion, pivoted paper clamping end portions, plates carried by the paper frame and extending below the same, and having vertical slots therein, headed pins carried by the pivoted paper clamp ing end portions and passing through the slots in the plates for limiting the downward swing of the paper-carrying member, and a negative carrying member removably carried and longitudinally adjustable within the paper-carrying frame.
5. A printing frame, comprising an elongated paper frame having a solid central portion, pivoted paper-clamping end portions, means for limiting the downward movement of the paper clamping end portions, a negative-carrying member of a width to fit within the paper-carrying frame, and of a length less than the said paper-carrying member, pivoted spring arms carried by the negativecarrying member and engaging the paper carrying member, a sheet of thin metal carried by the negative member and having an opening therein, a block Within the negativecarrying member and having an opening to correspond with the opening in the sheet metal, and pivoted spring members carried by the block and engaging plates carried by the negative-carrying member and holding the block therein.
6. A printing frame comprising an elongatedpaper-carryingframe, means for clamp ing the paper therein, a negative carrying frame of a width to snugly fit within the paper frame, and of-a length less than that of the paper frame and longitudinally movable therein, and longitudinal screws adjustably carried by the ends of the negative-carrying member for limiting the longitudinal movement thereof in the paper carrying frame, and means for clamping the negative therein.
7. A printing frame comprising an elongated paper frame having a solid central portion, and cut away portions at the ends, pivoted paper-clamping end portions within said cut away portions, means for limiting the downward movement of the outer ends of the clamping end portions, and a negative carrying member slidably mounted in the paper frame, and means for holding the negative carrying frame in its adjusted position.
8. A printing frame comprising an elongated paper frame having a solid central portion, and cut away portions at the ends, pivoted paper-clamping end portions within said cut away portions, means for limiting the downward movement of the outer ends of the clamping end portions, a negative-carrying member within the paper-carrying member, and of a length less than the paper-carrying member, and pivoted spring arms carried by the negative-carrying member and engaging the paper carrying member.
9. A printing frame comprising an elongated paper frame having a solid central porl tion and cut-away portions at the ends, intermediately pivoted paper-clamping end portions within said cut-away portions,
means for limiting the downward movement of the outer ends of the clamping end portions, and a negative-carrying member slidably mounted in the paper frame, and means for holding the negative carrying frame in its adjusted position.
10. A printing frame comprising an elongated paper frame having a solid central portion, and cut-away portions at the ends, intermediately pivoted paper clamping end portions within said cut-away portions,
screws carried by the ends of the paperclamping members, loops carried by the paper frame, and through which the screws pass for limiting the downward movement of the clamping member, a negative-carrying member slidably mounted in the paper frame, and
means for holding the negative carrying frame in its adjusted position.
