' IMPROVEMENT FOURDRINIER PAPR-MACHINES.
` The Schedule referred to in these Letters Patent and makingpa't of the same.
Be it known that I, CARL HOFMANN, of Elkton, Cecil county, Maryland, havel invented an Improvemeut inv Fourdrinier Paper-,Ma-hneS; and I do hereby declare the following to be a full, clear, and exact description of the same. Y
My invention consists in the combination, substantially as described hereafter, of one or more-revolving u brushes with the wire-cloth apron ofgaFourdrinier paperfmachine, so that the said apron may be cleared of foreign matter during its operation;
In order toV enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, `I will now proceed to describe its construction and operation, reference being had to the accompanying drawing,lvvhich forms a part of this specification, and in Which- Figure 1 is a longitudinal section of sufficient of a Fourdrinier vpaper-machine to illustrate my improvement. l Figure 2,`a plan view of iig. 1. y
` A represents part of the base of the machine, to which are secured the `opposite frames B and B.y
` D is the usual endless apron, of Wire gauze, passing over the breast-roller E, thence horizontally over a series of small rollers ou the frame of the machine, round the couch-roller F, and over the rollers d d, to
the said breast-roller E.
It will be needless to describe the'operation of this wire-gauze apron, as `it is common to all Fourdrinier It will suiice to remarklhere that To the base, of the machine, I secure two standards, f f, each carrying an adjustable bearing, t', for the spindle h, which is arrangedat right `angles to and `beneath the endless apron D, and which carries a cylin-v drical brush,'the latter being caused to revolve rapidly in the-direction contrary to the' course pursued by the apron, and in contact with the underside of the same, from which is thus removed theobjectionable foreign matter.
The bearing t' may be adjusted on the standards f,
lto any desired point, so as to insure the efficient. action l of the brush on the wire cloth.
More than one of these brushes may be'used to advantage, care being taken that each brush is situ ated near one of the rollers which guide the under side of the apron. i
Without confining myself` to the specific arrangement of parts herein described,
I claim as my invention, and desire to secure by Letters Patent- The combination, substantially as described, of one ror more revolving brushes, with the wire-cloth apron of a Fonrdrinierpaper-machine, for the purpose herein fset forth.
In testimony whereof, I have signed my name to this specification, in the presence of two subscribing witnesses.
CARL HOFMANN.
