IMPROVED MACHINE FOR MAKING PRINTERS RULES.
The Schedule refund. to in these Letters Patent and making put-of the same To all whom it may concern.-
Be it known that I, STEPHEN D. TUCKER, of the city, county, and State of New York, have invented a new and useful Improvement in Machines for Mitring Printers Rules; and I do hereby declare the following to bee. full, clear, and exact description of the construction and operation of the same, reference being had to the accompanying drawings, in which Figure 1 is a front elevation of the machine;
Figure 2, a top view of the same; and h figure 3 is a vertical sectional view of the cutter- Similar letters of reference indicate like parts in all the drawings.
My invention consists- First, in the combination and arrangement, with a segment-bed and rule-holder, of a reciprocating vibrating cutter-head.

To enable others skilled in the art to make and use my invention, I will now describe its construction and mode of operation.
The casting forming the frame A of the machine is provided with suitable lugs, or projections, in which are slots J, to which the segment-plate B is firmly bolted, by the bolts and nuts jj.
This plate B is formed with a concentric groove, b, and a slot, 71.
A projection on the bottom of the rule-holder D fits and turns in this groove, for the purpose of keeping the holder D in proper position, with reference to the centre of the circle of which the plate B is a segment,
and a set-screw, 1, passes through the slot '5, and works in the holder D, for the purpose of holding the same on the plate at the required angle.
The head 0, which carries the knife G, slides in grooves a in the guides A.
These grooves are made wider than the SiLtGS c of the head 0, to allow a lateral movement to be given to it.
This head is operated by means of the lever F, pivoted to the swivel-bolt H, being connected therewith by the jaws f f, cast on the head, as plainly shown in the drawings.

Having thus fully described my invention,
I claim- 1. The combination, with the segment-bed B and rule-holder D, of the reciprocating and vibrating head 0, the whole constructed, arranged, and operating substantially as described.
2. The mechanism for operating the cutter-head, consisting of the reciprocating and vibrating lever F, with its swivel-fulcrum H, and universal joint, ff, on the cutter-head, the whole constructed and operating substantially as described.
Making the segment-bed B adjustable laterally, in combination with a reciprocating vibrating cutter, so that by adjusting the bed, the whole width of the knife may be used, substantially as described.
